Job Description - Nursing Instructor (After-School, Part Time, In-Person)

Schedule: Typically 1 hour per week for 10 weeks (after school)
Location: On-site at a partner high school (location varies by assignment)
Start Date: Rolling openings based on school schedules

Position Overview
Concorde Education is seeking an engaging, student-centered Introduction to Nursing Instructor to facilitate a short-format after-school enrichment course for high school students. This course is designed to introduce learners to the nursing profession and health care pathways through age-appropriate, hands-on learning experiences, basic clinical skill exposure (non-invasive, simulated), and career exploration.
The instructor will deliver instruction one day per week for approximately one hour across a typical 10-week cycle, with pacing adapted to student needs and site logistics.

What You Will Teach
This course introduces students to foundational nursing concepts, professional expectations, and real-world applications in health care. Instruction should be interactive, practical, and appropriate for a high school setting

Major topics can include:

  • What Nurses Do: Roles and responsibilities across settings (hospital, clinic, community health, school nursing, long-term care)
  • Health Care Team & Pathways: RN vs. LPN/LVN vs. CNA; allied health careers; education and certification routes
Professionalism in Health Care: Communication, teamwork, empathy, patient advocacy, and confidentiality fundamentals
  • Ethics & Safety Foundations: Basic patient rights, boundaries, professionalism, and safety practices
  • Infection Control & Public Health Basics: Hygiene, PPE, standard precautions, and why protocols matter
  • Basic Vital Signs (Intro Level): What vital signs are and what they indicate (pulse, respiration, temperature concepts, blood pressure overview; demonstration and practice with simulation tools as available)
  • Basic Anatomy & Body Systems Overview: High-level, student-friendly survey of major systems and how they relate to nursing
Clinical Reasoning & Observation: Noticing changes, asking good questions, documenting observations (age-appropriate scenarios)
  • Communication Skills: Therapeutic communication basics; active listening; communicating clearly under pressure
  • First Aid & Response Awareness (Non-certification unless explicitly arranged by the site): Situational awareness, basic first aid concepts, and when to seek help
  • Workplace Readiness: Resume/portfolio starter items, interview basics, and “day in the life” reflections

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a consistent, well-managed 10-week after-school course (typically 10 sessions).
  • Facilitate interactive activities (case scenarios, role plays, skill stations with simulated tools, discussion prompts).
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Communicate professionally with site staff and Concorde Education program contacts.
  • Track basic attendance and session completion requirements per program expectations.
  • Support a simple culminating student artifact (examples: nursing career pathway plan, case-study reflection, “patient communication” role-play evaluation, or health education mini-presentation).

Qualifications (Required)

  • Minimum of 60 college credit hours completed (or associate degree in progress/completed).
  • Content knowledge in nursing, health sciences, or a closely related field (through coursework, training, professional experience, or current study).
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience working with school-age students (teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth programs, or similar).
  • Strong communication and classroom facilitation skills; ability to present age-appropriate health career content in a supportive, inclusive environment.
  • Reliable attendance and professionalism in a school-based setting; ability to follow site policies and maintain appropriate boundaries with students.
