Job Description - Occupational Health Nurse (Part-Time)


The 30+ year company supports the petrochemical and manufacturing industry domestically and internationally providing training, occupational medicine, and innovative solutions to industry. The Occupational Health Nurse will maintain a safe and healthy workforce by delivering medical services, managing occupational health programs, and ensuring compliance with industry-specific health and safety standards.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  •  Provide onsite medical care, emergency response, and first aid for work-related injuries and illnesses in accordance with site protocols.
  • Conduct pre-employment, fit-for-duty, and periodic health assessments for employees and contractors.
  • Support and manage occupational health surveillance programs, including respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and chemical exposure monitoring.
  • Collaborate with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) teams to identify and mitigate health risks associated with petrochemical processes and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA and company policies.
  • Assist in incident investigations, including root cause analysis and development of corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with HASC healthcare providers if an injury needs to be seen off site.
  • Administer vaccination programs (e.g., tetanus, flu, hepatitis) and manage immunization records.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN/COHN-S) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in occupational or industrial health; experience in the petrochemical or oil & gas sector strongly preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is a plus.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently in high-risk, high-compliance environments.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle training equipment and tools, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This job is typically in an office environment and will also require travel as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Reporting Responsibilities

The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the Manager of Medical Services. This position does not have direct reports.
