Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist or assistant will assess the client's attitudes, behavior, and ability to function in community and employment settings, create individualized service plans with actionable strategies, and track progress through follow-up reports. Plans will include recommendations for staff interventions to support client goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct written occupational therapy assessments.
- Evaluate skills like ADLs, community navigation, and job readiness.
- Develop person-centered service plans with actionable recommendations.
- Train staff to implement therapeutic strategies.
- Monitor progress and update plans as needed.
- Document client progress and participate in team discussions.
- Promote community engagement and recommend adaptive tools.
Qualifications:
Experience conducting written assessments in a healthcare setting.
About Us
The Problem
Individuals with dual diagnosis may suffer from a variety of conditions such as paranoia, depression, psychosis anxiety, aggression and self destructive behavior. Coping with serious mental illness leaves many individuals with depleted self-esteem, and a feeling of little or no control of their lives.
Goals
Confidence to take risks and replacing self defeating behaviors with winning achievements is expected of Life Skills graduates. Upon graduation, individuals may transition to a structured day program, community integration, or employment. A key outcome is to break the cycle of failure and prevent more restrictive programming.
Mental Illness
Working with dual diagnosis individuals is a complex challenge that requires knowledge of positive behaviors support as well as current developments in psychology and psychiatry practice. Life Skills is careful to assess the possibility that that individuals may be receiving medication that is excessive, inappropriate or is causing adverse interactions.
Who We Are
Life Skills is a Community Integration program that provides meaningful volunteer work for developmental disabled individuals in the City of San Fernando. Our goal is to create partnerships with local businesses and government entities for onsite work. From stock work to landscaping, Life Skills jobbers are known in the community by their bright orange vests. At the end of the day we all win and if we are lucky, we will make a new friend or two.
