Probationary Period: 90 days – Full time; 120 days – Part time
FLSA Status: Non - Exempt (hourly) 
Classification: Child Related CA
Driver’s License: Level 0 - No Driver's License Required. 
Rate of Pay: Occupational Therapist: $32.79 to $37.45 hourly
                       Instructional Assistant: $15.99 to $17.99 hourly
 
 


Responsibilities


  • Screens and/or evaluates students who have been referred to occupational therapy in the areas of fine and gross motor performance, coordination, postural stability, perceptual motor performance, sensory processing and self-regulation and activities of daily living/functional skills (such as written productions and classroom tool use) with emphasis on present level of performance as related to academic functioning. 

  • Plans, implements, and monitors occupational therapy goals for students’ IEPs that allow students to access and benefit from their specialized instruction.

  • Provide information and/or train special education and general education staff, parents/guardians, and other team members on specific interventions as appropriate.

  • Consults and collaborates with teachers and other specialists regarding appropriate motor activities, self-help skills, sensory needs, environmental and other adaptations, and special equipment or assistive devices as necessary.

  • Maintains close communication with classroom teachers, special education staff, other staff and parents/guardians concerning student performance.

  • Maintains accurate records of students evaluated and served in occupational therapy program; including assessment results, IEP progress and other district and BIE documentation/reporting requirements.

  • Participates in designated team meetings, individual education plan conferences and periodic reviews involving assessment, programming and reevaluation decisions. 

  • Schedules occupational therapy evaluation and service times/locations with teachers and special education coordinator.

  • Collect data on progress on goals and objectives for each student and meet all required timelines.

  • Acts as a liaison between school district and community agencies, doctors and hospitals as needed to provide collaborative occupational therapy services. 

  • Orders and maintains equipment and check-out system for adaptive equipment, assistive devices and other classroom support items. 

  • Participates in in-services and organizational meetings for special services.

  • Maintains proper certification by participating in professional development.

  • Promotes school and community awareness of occupational therapy.

  • When requested, serves on school district and/or community policy-making committees in an advisory capacity.

  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.

  • Must attend all mandatory department trainings.

  • Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.

  • Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.  

  • Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.

  • Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.

  • Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.

  • Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.   












Additional Instructional Assistant Responsibilities Include:







  • Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.

  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.

  • Assist teachers in the administration and correction of classroom expectations, learning, tests, and assessments.

  • Assist in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.

  • Assist students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising student breakfast/lunch programs, playground/recess duty, hallway, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas. 

  • Accompany students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.

  • Develop, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.

  • Assist students with disabilities in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, and achievement of IEP goals.

  • Assist in documentation including observations, behavior charts, behavior referrals, etc. As needed.

  • Promotes supports students in culturally appropriate activities. 

  • Alerts the general education teacher to any problems or specific information about individual students.

  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed teachers.

  • Actively advocate and demonstrate appropriate adult child interactions.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with all staff and community members.

  • Maintains professional standards toward creating confidential relationships with all program participants and staff.

  • Establish and maintain an attractive, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment for students.








Qualifications


  • No Driver's License Required.

  • Obtained a Master’s Degree or Professional Doctorate in occupational therapy from a school accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association is required

  • Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist (OT) by the MN Board of Occupational Therapy is required.

  • Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethical standards of Occupational Therapy; relevant state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; and applicable district policies and procedures is required

  • Ability to develop and implement effective occupational therapy interventions for students and provide consultation with school personnel is required.

  • Previous work experience in a school setting is beneficial.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.

  • Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is required.

  • Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.

  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.

  • Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.

  • Some travel may be required.








PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:







  • Regularly required to sit, stand, operate a computer and other office equipment, and must occasionally lift, move and/or support up to 50 pounds. 

  • Position can require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior. 








Additional Instructional Assistant Qualifications Include



  • Previous experience working with students with special needs is preferred.
