Who we are…
Power California is a multi-racial, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization with a sibling 501(c)(4) organization, made up of on-the-ground community partners in urban, suburban, and rural communities throughout the state. We are proudly one of the only statewide organizations dedicated to building the electoral power of young voters of color. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Reporting and Meetings (10%)
- Updates EveryAction to ensure progress is recorded.
- Tracks daily and weekly progress and reports updates to the team and supervisor.
Community Outreach (60%)
- Implements Drive Strategy: Scaling and developing new leaders through outreach (door-to-door, tabling, phone banking, and text banking) in neighborhoods and high-density locations.
- Growth Targets: Achieve 15 new leads per week from outreach; develop 10 new members into active members every two weeks.
Volunteer Recruitment and Youth Leadership Development (20%)
- Conducts volunteer recruitment through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, texting, and/or classroom presentations
- Carries out professional and engaging conversations with voters, volunteers and peers
- Supports administrative tasks such as making photocopies, organizing materials, etc. as assigned
- Tracks volunteer attendance and coordinates data entry to manage contacts
- Leads organizing orientations for young people
- Helps implement our leadership development program for youth leaders
Other Duties... (10%)
- Documents student-led activities and narratives for our social media channels, as directed by communications staff
- Carries out administrative tasks, as assigned
- Provides support at organizational events, as needed
- Works in good faith to support the overall stability and effectiveness of the organization
- Submits any and all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
- Supports supervisor with opening and closing the office and keeping it secure
- Participates in grassroots fundraising efforts, as assigned
- Works with other Power California staff to coordinate cross-regional activities
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- At least 1 year of experience with voter engagement campaigns or customer service preferred
- Passion for and commitment to working with young people of color, low-income immigrants, and refugees, especially from an intersectional perspective, including LGBTQIA+ communities
- Familiarity with grassroots organizing, advocacy, and electoral engagement techniques a plus
- Able to communicate in an outgoing, enthusiastic and persuasive manner
- Strong attention to detail, verbal communication, and time management skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Must be computer-literate, with basic skills in word processing, spreadsheets, web/email applications, and other work-related applications
- Flexible, team-oriented approach to problem-solving
- Bilingual or multilingual, with English and Spanish skills a plus
- Is self-motivated, organized and able to be strategic, flexible, and nimble when landscape shifts or opportunities arise
- Must be able to work flexible hours; some evenings and weekends required
- Must have a working cell phone with a data plan and a working home internet connection with adequate speed
- If driving is required for business purposes, the employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain access to reliable transportation. If using a personal vehicle for work travel, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance in compliance with California law are required.
- Based in or near Tulare, California (within 25 miles)
- Because of the job duties of this position, a criminal background check will be required as a condition of an offer of employment

- Position is located in the Tulare Office
- This position will operate in-person in the Tulare Office
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently travels by automobile or public transit, or works outside and is thus exposed to changing weather conditions
- When working inside an office, this position is not exposed to weather conditions
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

- Walks outside 80% of the time, and sits at a desk 20% of the time, which includes typing on a computer and mouse 40% of that time and talking on the phone 40% of that time
- Works at a desk 2-3 days of the week, which includes using a computer and mouse to communicate with voters during phone banking sessions
- Works on the ground during weekends for canvassing or special events (i.e a rally in front of City Hall)
- Regularly required by the duties of this job to move between areas; stay at one workstation; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell
- Carries 15 pounds of equipment or supplies about once a day over medium distances (20–30 feet)
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
