Job Description - Part-Time After School Art Counselor

ABOUT AMIGOS FOR KIDS:

Our free Afterschool Program at Jose Marti Park and Citrus Grove Elementary serves over 200 children, ages 6-12, from families with limited financial means. With measurable outcomes in reading, literacy, and physical fitness, we help children grow academically, socially, and personally.


 


POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Youth Services Site Coordinator, the person selected for this position is responsible for supervising, instructing, and assisting participants in the Amigos LEAD Program in the assigned classroom.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Facilitate daily art enrichment activities using age-appropriate and engaging visual arts projects.

  • Collaborate with the Youth Service Site Coordinator to plan art lessons, exhibits, and showcases.

  • Maintain appropriate records of daily attendance of the program participants.

  • Distribute snacks to program participants.

  • Provide homework assistance to program participants.

  • Deliver academic support and instruction in designated subject areas.

  • Conduct physical activity with program participants.

  • Assist with the coordination and supervision of field trips.

  • Organize and maintain all classrooms, equipment, supplies, and park areas/school playground according to provider manual and checklist.

  • Communicate with parents/caregivers of program participants regarding performance, behavior issues, incidents, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety protocols.

  • Communicate concerns or incidents to immediate supervisor.

  • Document all accidents, injuries, incidents, complaints, and problems.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful applicants must be of good moral character and reputation. Must be capable of accepting training, carrying out assigned tasks, communicating orally and in writing, communicating with emergency personnel, and understanding instructions. Applicants must have experience in visual arts (teaching, practicing, or related activities). Must have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years of age, and have experience or volunteer work with children in a group setting.


Must:



  • Agree to fingerprinting and a Level 2 background check.

  • Submit to random drug testing as determined by Amigos For Kids personnel policies and procedures.

  • Agree to attend staff development and training.

  • Sign an Affidavit of Good Moral Character

  • Have NEVER been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor related to abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other barrier crimes as listed on the Sworn Disclosure Statement of the Criminal Record Check

  • Provide references as requested.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, sit, crouch, bend, speak, and hear.







    • Ability to engage in physical activity with members without limitation.

    • Ability to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects between 10 and 20 pounds.




 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • This position requires a person who can work with many distractions, interruptions and still accomplish their objectives and meet established deadlines.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Flexible work hours required consistent with after school programming.

Jose Marti Park (351 SW 4th Avenue, Miami, FL 33130)


Monday – Friday 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
