Job Description - Part-Time Cook - Aging Well - Morrisville

Join our Team! Blueprints is hiring for a Less Than Full Time Cook Position within our Aging Well Services! The cook will Assure safe food handling practices and demonstrating knowledge of foodborne disease prevention as it relates to the Senior Center.  The Cook will Identify menu components which may include a food allergen through information provided by the FSV (Food Service Vendor).  The Cook will also carry out responsibilities of Person In Charge (PIC) of kitchen. The PIC must successfully pass ServSafe certification, and is responsible for documenting food safety. 




QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent.



WORK WEEK:



  • Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 1:30 PM (Up to 29 hours/week; hours will vary)


 


Essential Functions



  • Regular and reliable attendance is essential.

  • Participate in required meetings and training opportunities.

  • Adhere to Nutrition Services regulations set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA), including following appropriate hand washing techniques and using gloves/hair restraints.

  • Assure safe food handling practices and demonstrating knowledge of foodborne disease prevention as it relates to the Senior Center

  • Identify menu components which may include a food allergen through information provided by the FSV (Food Service Vendor).

  • Restrict any person with a communicable disease from working or volunteering in any Senior Center kitchen in any capacity in which there is a likelihood that the person might contaminate food or food contact surfaces.

  • Carry out responsibilities of Person In Charge (PIC) of kitchen. The PIC must successfully pass ServSafe certification, and is responsible for documenting food safety. 

  • Read from menus/glossary to estimate food requirements (according to the PDA regulations) and completes food orders (including milk, produce, bread, and meals) and supplies for vendor and/or purchase it from a local vendor. Also, responsible for proper storing/rotating of food and supplies.

  • Check temperatures of milk coolers, freezer, and refrigerators and records it daily. Adjusts thermostat controls to regulated temperatures to maintain proper temperature.

  • Ensure proper temperature of food for serving by use of a calibrated food thermometer.

  • Measure and mix ingredients using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.

  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam foods as required for large crowds (250+ meals/day).

  • Ensure that hot home delivered meals containers are sealed accurately and packaged in insulated travel containers. Ensure cold bags are prepped the day prior.

  • Ensure that meal transport containers are labeled as to the time they were packed and discarded if not served within four hours. Provide reheating instructions for Home Delivered Meal (HDM) recipients.

  • Portion food into plates/bowls using appropriate sized measuring utensils (spoodles).

  • Get written approval from AAA Dietician for menu substitutions.

  • Record menu changes on menu.

  • Clean and sanitize kitchen/preparation area, including eating equipment and utensils prior to and after food service.

  • Sweep/mop kitchen/serving area.

  • Record and complete necessary PDA documentation, recording logs, and reports, including inventory and meal counts. Track status of HDM recipients (new starts, holds, restarts, cancellations).

  • Deliver meals to home delivered meal recipients, or to other Senior Centers as needed.

  • Oversee home delivered meal volunteer drivers, and ensure meals are packaged according to time schedule and are ready for distribution by meal runs.

  • Responsible to call emergency contact and care manager in non-response situations to ensure homebound participant’s safety.

  • Gather satellite centers weekly orders and coordinate pick-up schedules.

  • Assist in duties necessary for the functioning of a Senior Center.

  • Serve as a resource to all Blueprints Service Areas for staff training, participant services and outreach.
