Job Description - Part Time LCAT for Afterschool Shelter Program

Counseling In Schools (CIS) is a dynamic community-based organization founded in 1986 with a mission to promote the emotional and social growth of children so that they can thrive in school and succeed in life. Our expert team includes licensed mental health and youth development professionals who fully integrate into the community, providing programs that equip children, families, teachers, and administrators with the right tools for preventing and coping with the challenges they face. Counseling in Schools (CIS) is seeking applicants for a part-time (4 afternoons a week) Master's Level Licensed or Permit seeking Creative Arts Therapist for  an after school program at a temporary housing residence in East New York Brooklyn.

Key Responsibilities: 
This position runs from Tuesday to Friday, After school from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and follows the NYC DOE school schedule. The primary responsibility will be leading Creative Arts Therapy groups. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children ages 5-15 in high-stress environments, be capable of working both independently and as part of a team, and have familiarity with basic documentation.

This is a 16-hour-per-week position, and clinical supervision will be provided.

Job Qualifications: 

  • Master’s level degree in Creative Arts Therapy 
  • Computer and data entry skills
  • Time management skills
  • Professional communication skills
  • Organizational Skills
  • Self-starter, takes initiative, motivated  


Requirements: This position is a part- time position. It is 4 days a week, Tuesday-Friday.

Preferred Skill:

  • Licensed or Permit holding Creative Arts Therapist
  • Art therapist preferred
  • Experience in school-based programs
  • Experience with play therapy
  • Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation
  • Experience working with large group


Work Location:  Brooklyn, NY 11212
Employment Type: Part-Time - In-person

Compensation: $40-50/hr depending on experience.

PTO will be accrued at a rate not less than 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
