The Part-Time Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for parishioners, visitors, and callers, ensuring a warm and welcoming environment. This role supports the day-to-day operations of the parish office by managing administrative tasks and providing assistance to clergy and staff as needed. Hours are Tuesday - Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Ministerial Character:
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish (St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manor, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. To fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manor, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Roman Catholic Church.
Key Responsibilities:
Reception Duties:
Greet visitors and parishioners warmly, ensuring they feel welcome.
Answer phone calls promptly and professionally, directing inquiries to the appropriate staff or ministry.
Respond to emails and messages courteously and in a timely manner.
Administrative Support:
Schedule appointments and assist in maintaining the parish calendar.
Assist in preparing (as needed) and distributing parish bulletins, newsletters, and other communications.
Manage incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
Maintain office supplies and order replacements as needed.
Record Keeping:
Update and maintain parishioner records in the church database.
Assist with sacramental record-keeping (baptisms, marriages, confirmations, etc.).
Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Event and Ministry Support:
Provide administrative support for parish events, meetings, and programs.
Assist with coordinating volunteers and maintaining ministry schedules.
General Office Duties:
Ensure the reception area is clean and organized.
Perform other tasks as requested by the Pastor or COO.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Practicing Catholic preferred with knowledge of parish life and operations.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in a receptionist or administrative role, preferably in a church or non-profit setting.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and church management software (or willingness to learn).
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
Friendly, patient, and professional demeanor.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.

Minimum qualifications :
English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing) and Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Valid Texas driver’s license.
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry policies.
Working Conditions:
All members of the Operations team must be ready to serve in the various positions.
The parish is an at-will employer.
All buildings and vehicles owned by the parish are tobacco free.
Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
Working on weekends, evenings and some holidays may be required.
Will be exposed to Roman Catholic Christian prayer, liturgical celebrations, conduct and speech.
Will be required to adhere to established dress code and conduct standards.
Traveling outside the parish to various events may be required. Use of personal vehicles to attend events is required.
Ability to handle a varied work environment and an abundance of personalities and situations.
