PART-TIME ReStore Cashier - Urbandale

The Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a discount home improvement store with new and gently used items including appliances, building materials, flooring, rugs, hardware, and more. All purchases help support Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s work to provide affordable housing.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a friendly and customer-oriented individual to join our team as a Habitat for Humanity ReStore Cashier. As a cashier, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, processing sales transactions, and maintaining accurate records of all transactions. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the front of the store is clean, organized, and well-stocked. You may help process donations, load and unload donations and store inventory, and assist customers on the sales floor as needed.

This position will be PART-TIME.  20-24 hours per week. Most likely several week days and Saturdays. (Example: 1 weekday 9am-6pm, one weekday 10am-4pm and Saturdays 9am-6pm. Some flexibility may be available for the weekdays.)

Responsibilities:

• Greet customers and provide excellent customer service
• Build and maintain positive relationships with customers
• Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently
• Handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions
• Maintain accurate records of all transactions
• Assist with pricing and stocking merchandise
• Keep the store clean, organized, and well-stocked
• Answer customer questions and provide information about Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore
• Ensure that all areas of the store/warehouse are safe, clean, organized, and safe
• Guard against theft
• Display merchandise in a way that maximizes sales
• Guide and assist volunteers as assigned

Requirements

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous cashier or retail experience preferred
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Basic math skills
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 80 pounds
• Clean criminal background check
• Willingness to work with volunteers
• Desire to work with diverse staff and customer base
