Part Time School Counselor

Derby Academy is a Pre-K-8 school in Hingham Massachusetts. Rooted in the school’s motto, “Improve Both Mind and Heart,” Derby provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment while infusing values and character development into all we do.

Derby Academy seeks a compassionate and collaborative School Counselor. This part-time position will support the social and emotional needs of students and families through middle-school grade levels while working collaboratively with teachers and staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Providing short-term individual and group counseling with respect and compassion for each individual student
• Implementing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons in classrooms
• Empowering students to self-advocate and build skills to problem solve confidently
• Helping students develop age appropriate social skills and identify and regulate emotions
• Organizing and leading affinity groups and lunch bunches
• Creating a community of belonging

The Derby Academy Part-Time School Counselor will also:

• Make recommendations for outside provided as needed
• Collaborate with teachers to develop positive behavior plans and recommend class accommodations
• Be a member of the Crisis Team for crisis and safety
• Participate in conversations rooted in the best interest of students at grade level meetings and students discussion conversations
• Display a commitment to on-going professional development

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Degree in school counseling, psychology, social work or related field required
• Commitment to confidentiality
• 2+ years Experience working with children as a counselor or therapist
• Experience working in a school setting
• Strong communication skills (written, verbal and listening)
• Excels at working as a team with faculty, staff and families
