Part-Time Tax Deputy

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position entails collection of property taxes. The role is a front-line position working with a diverse population of both taxpayers (Individual and Business) and various financial and government offices. This requires demonstrated ability and efficiency in computer and accounting skills. In this position with processing of taxpayer funds, the role requires handling of cash, credit card information and direct deposit data.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coding of Government employees, for those that reside in Hendricks County, from lists submitted by all government funded Research on semi-annual basis all government employee’s delinquent on property taxes and process for payroll deductions if need be. Work closely with all schools, libraries, towns, townships, conservancies, county and state.
- Process and electronically document tax payments received in person, by mail or direct
- Process payments from title companiesand mortgage companies.
- Balance receipts and taxpayer funds daily via multiple funded drawers based on method of
- Provide tax information to title companies, mortgage companies and taxpayers in person, serving at the Government Center counter or by
- Process and assist taxpayers and abstractors with research, questions and tax
- Ensure that taxes are current on mobile homes prior to authorizing a mobile home moving and/or transfer of title
- Ensure all taxes are current on businesses and properties applying for Alcohol Beverage Commission
- Research all returned mail for new addresses and remailing of all statements and
- Assist Sheriff’s office with monthly foreclosures by receiving parcel list.
- Work with taxpayers that may need financial assistance throughout the year by establishing a payment Monitor each payment plan to assure payment plan is being followed.
- Post third party tax payments daily (charge card and e-check payments that are posted on website). Manage any returned payments for not
- Research all returned problem mail from the bank that could not be processed due to no signatures on check, incorrect amount paid per statement amount, no statements accompanying check and various other
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Must be knowledgeable and capable of administering all other jobs within the office
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-5 year work experience in accounting/banking or Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
- High school diploma, or equivalent GED
- Ability to work independently and to interact with various and diverse levels of employees and
- Ability to execute business processes, as well as develop and implement new processes as
- Strong accounting skills
- Proficient computer skills and especially Microsoft Excel and Word
- Must be able to build spreadsheet with formulas.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment
- Good organizational skills
- Strong math aptitude
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and writing
- Proficient knowledge of general office practices, such as filing, record keeping and phone etiquette
- Attention to detail
- Bondable
RESPONSIBILITY:
Works under established guidelines and procedures, but must use problem solving skills to balance funds, correct taxing errors, count large quantities of money and ensure all office processes are followed. Errors in work can cause significant inconvenience to the public or significant financial loss to the County.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Working relationships with supervisor, associates in same department, other county departments, state departments, courts, attorneys, municipalities, mortgage companies, title companies, various needed vendors and the general public for the purpose of communicating factual or procedural information.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in a public facing but standard office environment.
