St. Mary’s Catholic Center seeks a highly motivated professional leader who enjoys people, is mission-driven, and has experience in cultivating relationships with students. The first priority is the care of persons through the evangelization and pastoral care of the students and members of St. Mary’s. They should be self-directed, goal-oriented, well-organized, and exhibit creativity, with strong attention to detail. The Pastoral Assistant reports directly to the Pastor.

St. Mary’s Catholic Center at Texas A&M University has the mission to form apostles for the Church and the world. We are a ministry of the New Evangelization who believe in exercising a dynamic orthodoxy, faithful to the Church’s instruction, engaging and fervent, and in a manner that reaches the hearts of the faithful and the unchurched. The Pastoral Assistant is a member of the pastoral team at St. Mary’s Catholic Center. An important value of our parish staff is reliance on prayer, thus we enjoy the opportunity to begin each day of work in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
Requirements
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The Pastoral Assistant will interact daily with staff members and the community and should possess a servant's heart. This individual must demonstrate good judgment, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills. As a member of the pastoral team, the assistant will collaborate to address the needs of the Center, working with a spirit of teamwork and a shared vision
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Mary’s Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
Assist the Clergy and Director of Campus Ministry with scheduling appointments, answering emails and phone calls, completing paperwork, and handling administrative tasks.
Tactfully, cordially, confidentially, and accurately represent the Clergy and Director of Campus Ministry in scheduling meetings and events, as well as in communication with both staff and community members.
Assist other members of the pastoral team with administrative tasks.
Manage attendance statistics for organizations or ministries within the Pastoral Team.
Be available to assist other Pastoral Team members with ministries and projects as needed.
Receive cross-training from the Operations Coordinator to assist them when possible.
Schedule and attend meetings, recording minutes as requested by the pastoral team.
Maintain leadership rosters and update organizational policy packets.
Serve as the site administrator for Ethics and Integrity training through the Diocese of Austin.
Assist the pastoral team with facilities scheduling.
Organize and plan internal staff gatherings and socials.
Collaborates with funeral homes to coordinate and plan funeral services.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A “people person” with motivational leadership skills.
Well-organized, detail-oriented, and effective in communication and problem-solving.
Professional demeanor, including the ability to set appropriate personal boundaries.
A sense of personal integrity—honoring commitments, dealing honestly and respectfully with all individuals, and committed to personal growth and spiritual development.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
Proficiency in Excel, Google Sheets, Google Forms, and other Google communication platforms.
Availability for occasional evening hours.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or certificate.
EXPERIENCE
Working within the Catholic Community
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license.
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies through the employment period.
JOB CONDITION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed in a church or office setting with daily and weekly deadlines. The candidate must have flexibility and availability to be present on some nights and weekends. The Campus Minister while performing the duties of this job, is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit and perform repetitive motions of hands/wrists. The ability to lift and move items up to twenty pounds is required.
