Department: Food & Beverage

Position: Pastry Assistant 

Hours looking for: Per Diam – 24 – 40 +Hours Weekly. Monday-Friday (Days) – Occasional Nights & Weekends All Hours may vary depending on events in house. 

Pay: Competitive Pay with Experience 

General Description:

A pastry assistant should be reliable and hardworking. They will assist the Pastry Chef in the preparation and production of baked goods, maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and production of baked goods, including measuring and mixing ingredients, baking/producing and decorating, garnishing and displaying/plating finished products.
  • An assistant should be familiar with all items on the menu and how to produce them. And should be able to follow recipes and procedures exactly, to maintain consistency.
  • The assistant will follow the production lists and any oral directions. As well as being able to work independently and efficiently and should be able to stay on task(s) and complete production list daily. 
  • Will be required to learn and retain new skills and knowledge through mentorship, observation and self-motivation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, cleaning and organizing all spaces on a regular basis.
  • Will also assist in the main kitchen as needed, this will be on a communicated basis to the assistant, by the pastry chef (via the executive chef.) 
  • Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels and notifying management of any shortages.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and handling food in a safe and hygienic manner
  • Will work with and communicate directly with the pastry chef on all matters and tasks.

Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in a bakery or food service environment preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Basic math skills and ability to follow recipes and measurements accurately
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, some evenings, weekends, and holidays and overtime hours when needed.
  • Must be able to maintain an excellent attendance record, must be ready to work and at “station” at their scheduled time.
  • A positive attitude, ability to work well with others

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach
