We are seeking a charismatic, motivating, and knowledgeable part-time Personal Trainer to help our members achieve their fitness goals at the Gypsum Recreation Center. The ideal candidate will support each client’s individual needs by offering form correction and exercise modifications to ensure safety and promote growth. POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Personal Trainer

Location: Gypsum Recreation Center (Gypsum, CO)

Employment Type: Part-Time, Year-Round

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)

Schedule: Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility is required to successfully fulfill job responsibilities. 

Supervision Required: Works under the direct supervision of the Facility Coordinator 

Supervision Exercised: None

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work schedule requires reliable attendance for scheduled personal training sessions. The position requires consistent mental and visual attention while instructing, demonstrating exercises, and monitoring participants for proper technique and safety. Physical demands include prolonged periods of standing and walking, frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, and demonstrating a variety of exercises and movements. The position may require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning fitness equipment and weights, as well as assisting participants with equipment setup and proper use. The position requires frequent use of voice for instruction and may involve periods of continuous physical activity and one-on-one or small-group participant interaction.

Salary: $27.00/hour; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Statement of Duties: Develops and delivers individualized, safe, and effective fitness and exercise programs based on participants’ goals, abilities, and fitness levels. Provides instruction, guidance, motivation, and ongoing support to help participants improve their fitness and work toward personal health and wellness goals.

• Develop and deliver individualized personal training programs based on participant goals, abilities, fitness levels, and needs.
• Conduct appropriate fitness assessments and use results to establish goals, develop exercise programs, and monitor participant progress.
• Instruct participants in proper exercise techniques, equipment use, movement patterns, and general fitness principles.
• Observe and monitor participants throughout training sessions to promote proper technique, safety, and appropriate levels of physical activity.
• Modify exercises and training programs as appropriate based on participant abilities, progress, and individual needs while remaining within the scope of the position.
• Build positive, professional relationships with participants and provide encouragement, motivation, and constructive feedback.
• Respond to participant questions and concerns and refer participants to appropriate resources or qualified professionals when needs fall outside the Personal Trainer’s scope of practice.
• Coordinate with staff regarding training schedules, facility and fitness-space availability, equipment needs, and other operational considerations.
• Maintain required participant records, forms, assessments, and other program documentation accurately and in accordance with established procedures.
• Set up, inspect, clean, sanitize, and properly store fitness equipment before and after training sessions as needed.
• Identify and address program-specific risk management, equipment, facility safety, and cleanliness concerns and report issues according to established procedures.
• Support the inclusion of participants of varying ages, abilities, backgrounds, and fitness levels by providing appropriate exercise options and modifications.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to injuries, accidents, medical emergencies, and other incidents in accordance with established emergency and reporting procedures.
• Comply with applicable mandatory reporting requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of: 

• Exercise physiology, anatomy, kinesiology, and current principles and best practices related to personal training.
• Fitness assessment, exercise techniques, and methods for developing safe and effective individualized fitness programs based on participant goals, abilities, and fitness levels.

Skills and abilities: 

• Applies a variety of training techniques, exercises, and modifications to meet individual goals, abilities, fitness levels, and needs.
• Communicates exercise instruction, technique, expectations, and safety information clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrates strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Builds positive relationships with participants while maintaining a professional, encouraging, and motivating training environment.
• Observes participant movement and technique and provides appropriate instruction, modifications, and corrective feedback.
• Demonstrates exercises and proper use of fitness equipment safely and effectively.
• Adapts training sessions and exercise programs based on participant progress, abilities, limitations, and changing goals within the scope of the position.
• Works cooperatively with staff and maintains positive, constructive relationships with participants and the public.
• Maintains appropriate professional boundaries and participant confidentiality.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to safety concerns, injuries, and emergency situations in accordance with established procedures.
• Performs the physical duties associated with personal training, including demonstrating exercises and assisting with fitness equipment.

Requirements:

Education and experience

• Must be at least 18 years of age; AND
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications

• Current Personal Trainer Certification from a nationally recognized certifying organization required.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
