Job Description - Phlebotomist - PRN

The Phlebotomist obtains specimens to be used for diagnostic tests, transfusions, or research.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Properly dispose of used sharps and other bio-hazardous waste.
  • Collect, process, and deliver specimens to appropriate section of the Laboratory for testing.
  • Maintain phlebotomy trays and outpatient draw station (restocking supplies, cleanliness, etc.)
  • Function performed affect the population ages newborn through geriatric.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Must complete color blind test/screen within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Experience

  • One year related experience or training.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Phlebotomy Technician PBT (ASCP).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

With or without accommodation.

  • Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
