Job Description - Physical Therapy Assistant - Full time to Part Time
Description
Provide direct patient care designed by, and under the supervision of, the physical therapist to facilitate recovery and attainment of maximum physical potential of patients. Work closely with the physical therapist and physical therapy manager to ensure comprehensive delivery of services and quality patient care. Perform related clerical duties as needed, such as greet, instruct, direct, and schedule patients and visitors. Process patients through computerized system, prepare patient charts/paperwork. Serve as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. Answer incoming phone lines as necessary and route calls or take messages.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work closely with physical therapist and manager to receive guidance and instruction for treating patients.
Perform direct patient care as instructed by physical therapist, including but not limited to modalities, hydrotherapy, therapeutic exercise, gait training, etc.
Complete appropriate documentation on all patients treated, including subjective and objective information, progress in therapy, and other information pertinent to the patient's care.
Prepare all areas and treatment rooms with appropriate supplies and instruments.
Inform the physical therapist of any changes in the treatment orders or the patient status.
Identify and communicate to the physical therapist any adverse reaction of the patient to the treatment.
Order and maintain physical therapy and office supplies as needed. Maintain equipment for use in a clean and safe condition at all times. Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
Issue forms to patients for completion as needed, give clear instructions and offer assistance. Review all forms for completion, accuracy, and signatures.
Record all fee tickets and patient names on appropriate logs as appropriate. Check company protocols for special instructions.
At time of discharge, review all paperwork for accuracy and appropriate signatures, etc.
File charts and reports, etc. as needed. Maintain work area in orderly manner. Notify patients of long wait times.
Utilize formal channels of communication to report concerns, personal requests, and patient issues.
Respect patient's right to privacy and confidentiality.
Report to work properly dressed according to the approved dress code. Understand and follow the department's organizational policies and procedures.
Answer telephone, screen calls, and take messages as necessary.
Requirements
Knowledge of medical practice and organizational policies to administer patient care.
Knowledge and skill in therapeutic exercises and post-surgical procedures. Ability to facilitate prescribed treatment.
Knowledge of use and maintenance of physical therapy equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Excellent people skills, telephone manners and etiquette.
Ability to pleasantly interact with staff, patients, public, and clients. Desire to meet and exceed client and patient needs and expectations.
Knowledge of computer applications, typing or word processing skills (as appropriate).
Appropriate skill in verbal and written communication. Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
Detail oriented, organized and self-motivated.
Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral directions. Ability to document and maintain patient care records.
Ability to follow medical quality assurance and quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to complete assigned projects and meet deadlines.
Sufficient knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling to correctly enter patient information into the computer (as appropriate).
Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to sort and file materials correctly in alphabetical or numerical systems. Knowledge of company programs, services, and resources available to patients. Ability to use correct body mechanics in order to avoid repetitive motion and other injuries related to office work.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Education, Licenses/Certification
Degree from an APTA accredited program and/or approved by the Physical Therapy Examining Committee of the State of California Medical Board.
Licensed as a registered physical therapist (RPT) in the state of California.

The base salary is determined on the candidate's education, qualifications, and experience, and is subject to change based on various internal and external factors.
