Position Summary:
The Equity Alliance is seeking a part-time Policy Fellow, to assist our Policy Manager in her efforts to effect change in Tennessee.  While this is a remote position, the candidate should be based in Tennessee, and expect up to 25% of regional travel to be required.

critical responsibilities associated with this position.



  • Researching and monitoring the redistricting process for the TN General Assembly and local jurisdictions in Davidson, Shelby and Hamilton County.

  • Researching census data and developing policy briefs

  • Working with political data experts to develop redistricting maps 

  • Developing working relationships with local planning departments and state legislators

  • Hosting community mapping sessions and training to educate and get feedback on the mapping process

  • Attending redistricting hearings on the state and/or local level

  • Monitoring legislation and providing updates to team members and coalition partners

  • Digital/social amplification of redistricting content and messaging to educate the public 

  • Supporting coalition activities for the Tennessee Democracy Defenders



Contract Length: 



  • This will be a part-time contract position, beginning ASAP and ending on March 31st, 2022. 



Compensation:



  • Contractor will be paid $1,500 each month, paid at the end of the month.  A $100 monthly travel stipend will be provided in addition to the monthly payroll.



Qualifications:
Education-
• High school diploma or equivalent



Licenses/Certifications:
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation

Skills and background:


• Office 365 and Google Drive mastery
• Knowledge of office management systems and procedures


• Excellent communication skills



Experience and competencies:



  • Manage all phases of a research project 

    • project design, 

    • scheduling, 

    • personnel and resource management, 

    • data collection and 

    • analysis, delivery and dissemination); 

    • managing client relationships and expectations.





  • Draft non-technical briefs and reports for a public and/or public-sector audience; 

  • Use statistical analyses in persuasive, non-academic writing; 

  • Synthesize academic research and quantitative analyses into coherent and policy-relevant messages.

  • Posses a basic understanding of local/state/federal policymaking processes, funding mechanisms, and social program delivery.

  • Demonstrate understanding of causal inference; 

  • Display strong statistical analysis skills; 

  • Provide basic experience translating statistical analyses for non-technical audiences.

  •  Interpersonal & Communication Skills- must demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in effective information exchange with clients and direct reports

  • Attention to Detail- must demonstrate the ability to recognize the component parts of a procedure and verify its correctness and/or error

  • Time Management- accurately evaluate and prioritize decisions and actions to be completed effectively and timely

  • Experience working effectively and collaboratively with diverse populations



Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:
• Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, works with the fingers, and perceives attributes of
objects and materials


• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, stoop and balance
