The Production Assistant assists the Pastor in making sure that the sick and homebound parishioners, as well as those away from the church, will be taken care of in their spiritual needs by receiving the parish’s liturgical services and other events via social media. The Production Assistant reports to the Parish Business Administrator in administrative matters and to Information Technology for specific tasks for liturgies and events.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish San Jose Catholic Church - Austin, Texas which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at San Jose Catholic Church - Austin, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Requirements
Essential Duties
In general:
As an integral part of her/his ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, the Production Assistant supports and upholds the Catholic vision, mission, values, and ministry of the parish in both her/his professional and personal life.
The Production Assistant acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the way to live out the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
The Production Assistant continuously grows in her/his personal and ministerial identity by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities, as directed.
In particular:
Participate in planning meetings with the Parish Business Administrator, Liturgy and Music, and Information Technology.
Participate in check-in meetings with Information Technology.
Livestream liturgical services and other events oriented to the sick, homebound, and those away from the church.
Maintain a work schedule that maximizes availability to staff and customers.
Review and report comments placed on live streams to the PBA and Pastor.
Other duties assigned as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the Mass and basic understanding on the importance of the rites of the Catholic Church.
Skill in organizing, prioritizing, and utilizing effective time management techniques to carry out tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to help sustain an environment consistent with the parish mission and goals.
Ability to demonstrate interest in learning.
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with all co-workers.
Ability to provide excellent livestreams to online community.
Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with the Church Community.
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ability to proficiently communicate in English and Spanish (conversing, writing, and reading).
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Trainings:
Highschool or GED diploma or working towards it.
Experience:
Minimum of one year as a volunteer in liturgy.
Language:
English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).
Bilingual English-Spanish (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing).
Catholic Requirement:
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Texas driver’s license.
Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies through the employment period.
Working Conditions
All employees of the parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
The parish is an at-will employer.
All buildings and vehicles owned by the parish are tobacco-free.
Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
Working on evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.
Will be expected to participate and at times conduct Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations appropriate to her/his state in life (i.e., lay person).
Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
