Job Description - Program Assistant (Summer) Part-Time/Seasonal

Description

Hours:                                25-26 (July and August)

Program/Department:    Afterschool Academy

Reports To:                       Program Coordinator of Summer Enrichment

Job Summary

The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the daily implementation of summer enrichment programming for the Afterschool Academy that serves youth entering grades 1st-8th. Responsibilities range from assisting with facilitation of activities, behavior management, administration tasks and other assigned duties as requested.  

Job Duties  

  1. Assist with the day-to-day operation of a summer enrichment program deigned to help students achieve personal and academic success. 
  2. Assist with accurate record keeping and collection of intake information on each student.
  3. Work with Program Coordinator/Counselors to develop program agendas and group sessions.
  4. Provide group and individual counseling as needed.
  5. Assist with administrative tasks, including but not limited to: record keeping, filing, answering phones, and creation of marketing tools.
  6. Assist with classroom management.
  7. Serve KidsCafe Foodlink meals to the youth.
  8. Assist with recruiting students for summer program and upcoming school year program.
  9. Participate in training and orientation as required and approved by the Director for effective program operation. 
  10. Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  11. Attend/support Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.

Requirements

  

  • High School Diploma required
  • Associates degree preferred in education, counseling, administration or related field, equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm.
  • Experience working with youth in an educational setting. 
  • Experience using online platforms including but not limited to social media, Zoom, Google Classroom, etc. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and customer service oriented.
  • Ability to relate well and understand the barriers of minority and underrepresented youth mainly from the inner city.
  • Proficient competency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of community resources for volunteer mentors, youth and families is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple, competing tasks and demands.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
