Job Description - Program Recruitment & Outreach Assistant (TEMP)

TRIO Programs:

The Upward Bound Project EDGE (Exploration and Determination Guarantees Excellence) program is designed to provide opportunities for fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The goal is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. Our goal is to recruit participants into the Upward Bound program, retain them, graduate them, and get them ready for post-secondary education admittance and graduation.

The Opportunity:

The UCF TRiO Upward Bound- Project EDGE program is seeking an energetic and mission‑driven Program Recruitment Assistant to support student outreach, engagement, and marketing at Edgewater High School. In this role, you will help identify and connect with prospective students, build relationships within the school community, and create compelling materials that showcase the opportunities offered by TRiO. This is an excellent role for individuals passionate about youth development, educational opportunity, and creative outreach.

This is a unique opportunity for people who are organized, outgoing, and comfortable working with students, families, and school staff. They will work approximately 8 hours per week. This position will work a flexible schedule with occasional evening and/or weekend availability.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow the program's social media platform.

  • Attend school visits for recruiting new students; set up info tables during lunch, present to classrooms or parent nights, coordinate with school staff and liaisons.

  • Represent the program at school and community events (college fairs, career days, open houses, etc.).

  • Distribute and collect summer academy forms.

  • Send reminders to students and parents about summer and academic year events, form deadlines, and field trips and virtual week requirements.

  • Take photos and videos at events for use in promotional materials and social media.

  • Track and report recruitment activity and applicant progress and follow-up with parents/students regarding pending documents.

  • Provide basic customer service to parents/students (answering general questions via phone, email, DM, or in-person).

  • Track engagement data from social media and report on effectiveness.

  • Maintain and update a recruiting calendar and school contact list.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with any of the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or pursuing a degree.

  • Experience engaging with high‑school youth in educational, mentoring, or community settings.

  • Basic graphic design skills (Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud) and comfort with photo/video capture.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking.

  • Experience with social media content creation and youth‑oriented digital engagement.

  • Experience assisting with events, workshops, or outreach activities.

  • Familiarity with TRiO programs, first generation student needs, or college access initiatives.

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage shifting priorities.

Must pass Level 1 and 2 background check per UCF requirements for working with minor youth. This position requires a Level 2 Background Check through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Clearinghouse prior to employment. The position is provisional and funded through August 31, 2027, by a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education/TRIO. This is a Contract and Grant (C&G) funded position. Employment is subject to availability of funding and may cease at the time funding for this employment is depleted.

Applicant must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer, as sponsorship is not available for this position, now or in the future.

This position works a flexible schedule and requires occasional evening and/or weekend availability.
