Job Description - Program Specialist (Part-Time)

Team Up Mentoring connects the key elements of a child’s life to foster growth and success through building long term relationships with children, collaborating with all stakeholders, and providing resources and skills for the entire family.



Title:        Program Specialist
Reports to:    Teen Learning Academy Director or Elementary Director 
Classification:   Part time, hourly
Schedule:    Based on the needs of the clients / volunteers

Nature and Scope: Team Up Mentoring is a 501c3 nonprofit organization



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES





Job Duties




  • Coordinate transportation to and from the programs.

  • Coordinate meal donors, including scheduling and greeting onsite, for the programs.

  • Train staff or volunteers in the selected curriculum.

  • Conduct pre-tests and post-tests for all participants.

  • Identify and host relevant  guest speakers.

  • Coordinate and conduct small groups on programming nights as needed. 

  • Assist in maintaining program budget, equipment inventories and supplies.



Client Management




  • Provide necessary supports for client activities as needed (transportation, diverse methods of communication, advocacy, etc.).

  • Ensure that clients receive positive recognition for their efforts. 

  • Ensure that clients actively participate in all scheduled programs and activities. 

  • Support an environment where client experiences are personalized, positive, and trauma informed.

  • Demonstrate the ability to build effective relationships with clients and their families. 




POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES






  • Attends regular training to further develop professional skills related to the duties of the position.

  • Prepares and delivers formal presentations to community groups and interested organizations.



CHALLENGES




  • Balance budget constraints with growing service needs.

  • Design programming to promote accountability in a self-managed work environment.

  • Effectively negotiate the balance between client and volunteer needs.



REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE




  • Bachelor’s Degree in a youth development related field with two (2) years professional experience preferred.

  • At least two (2) years of experience working in direct services preferred.

  • Experience providing quality youth development programming and/or trauma informed care for teens and young adults.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.

  • Ability to multitask well with strong organizational skills and self-care regimen.

  • Working knowledge of local community needs and resources.

  • Working knowledge of computers, Google workspace, and other office equipment.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Requires people soft skills – diplomacy and human relation skills – ability to relate well to diverse groups – client participants, corporate and individual contributors, in addition to interested community organizations.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.



PHYSICAL CONTEXT / MENTAL CONTEXT / WORK ENVIRONMENT





Flow of work and character of duties involves:



  • Sustained mental concentration and visual attention to detail in and the flexibility in mental and visual concentration to part time levels rising from spontaneous interruptions, as required.

  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state guidelines to daily operation, as required.

  • Ability to prioritize own workload to daily operation, as required.

  • Ability to apply analytical skills and solve problems, as required.



Activities include:



  • Prolonged sitting, reading, mental concentration, and visual attention to detail using a computer monitor, lifting to 20lbs, talking, seeing, color vision, pulling, pushing, grasping, and handling of clothing or apparel.
