An exciting opportunity is available with the Roswell Park Care Network for a Pulmonary Function Technician to join our team in Niagara Falls, NY

As a Pulmonary Function Technician (PFT), you will evaluate and test patients' respiratory function to help identify potential problems and assist in the diagnosis of lung diseases. 

Responsibilities:

  • Greet the patient in the front reception; obtain medical prescription for order set. 
  • Explain test fully and clearly to the patient, any concerns for testing should be brought to a physician prior to testing. 
  • Take testing to physician immediately following for interpretation and potential office visit. 
  • Keep both labs fully stocked with all PFT supplies needed for testing.
  • Inform Practice Administrator of any critical needs such as large orders of filters, Albuterol, tubing. 
  • Inform physicians and Practice Administrator of any issues with the PFT machines or computer links. All machine repairs or parts must be approved prior to ordering.
  • Maintain a clean and dust-free PFT lab; ensure all trash is removed daily. Regularly clean machines, tables, chairs, and keep floors swept and tidy.       
  • Communicate with providers at the end of each day to check for any outstanding tasks or needs before leaving. 
  • Perform six-minute walk tests and oxygen qualification assessments. 
  • Greet patients respectfully using their last name (e.g., “Mr. Smith”) and take vital signs.
  • Review and document patient weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry readings, and current medications.
  • Examine the most recent medical records to verify testing orders and gather relevant hospital records, consult notes, and prior test results. 
  • Conduct six- and two-minute walk tests as requested by physicians. 
  • Assist physicians and practitioners with patient care activities and help coordinate appointment scheduling.

Requirements

 

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in respiratory care or a related program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum 1-2 years as Pulmonary Function Technologist.
  • Excellent communication both verbal and in writing.

Certification/Licenses:

  • PFT - Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). 
  • Certified respiratory therapist (CRT) or registered respiratory therapist (RRT) credential a plus.
