Job Description - Receptionist

Position Summary: A Receptionist is responsible for greeting guests in a warm and welcoming manner, handling inquires via phone or in-person, efficiently checking guests in/out, and reserving rooms.

Essential Job Functions 



  • Be the "face of The Lantern Columbia" in every interaction, person-to-person or on the phone. Know you are one of the first representatives a guest will encounter and then form an opinion on The Lantern Columbia.  

  • Maintain a friendly, professional, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times.

  • Accurately answer inquiries from potential guests, book hotel reservations, and engage guests when in the lobby.  

  • Consistently resolve guest situations in an efficient manner while demonstrating a sense of urgency.

  • Uses suggestive selling techniques when appropriate, to sell room nights, increase occupancy and revenue.

  • Allocate rooms to expected arrivals after checking the guests preferences and special requests.

  • Be the center of the day-to-day operations by constantly communicating with valet and housekeeping ensuring a smooth flow of check-ins and check-outs.  

  • Cross check all billing instructions to ensure they are correctly updated and all fees are collected accurately and timely.  

  • Ensure all reservations are accurately assigned, leisure guests and group blocks.  

  • Ensure that you've read and made entries into the Front desk log (book or system) and any information is provided to your teammates.  

  • Ensure guest and teammate safety by following guest check-in and security procedures and reporting suspicious activity to security, manager, or MOD, especially potential Human Trafficking.  

  • Assists all departments in servicing the guests especially during high volume periods.

  • Accurately and timely punch in and out of the time clock.  


Experience and Education: 


Experience in customer service, forward-facing, or other guest-related positions a huge plus.  Having worked at a front desk before even better.  


Having worked with a property management system is another plus, but we can certainly train.  We hire for personality and those who love others before experience.  


Proficient in Microsoft 365 or similar computer applications.


We do need a minimum of a High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
