Registered Dental Hygienist (Part-Time)

Primary Accountability               

The Registered Dental Hygienist is responsible for the provision of preventative and treatment services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care.

Description of Primary Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for conducting oral health assessments.
   
   
   
   1. Review/screen oral health conditions (which includes and is not limited to health history, oral cancer screenings, head/neck inspection, dental charting, blood pressure/pulse).
   
   
   2. Take dental radiographs.
   
   


2. Take dental impressions and pouring models.


3. Responsible in performing all preventative and hygiene services in accordance with California Dental practice act.
   
   
   
   1. Remove calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the dentition.
   
   
   2. Polish and contour restorations.
   
   
   3. Apply preventative materials to teeth (includes and not limited to sealants and fluoride).
   
   
   4. Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies (brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling.)
   
   


4. Responsible in maintaining sanitary/sterile armamentarium.
   
   
   
   1. Adhere to current infection control procedures.
   
   
   2. Assure operatory is sanitary and set up for procedure.
   
   
   3. Work with dental assistants to make sure that instruments are appropriate.
   
   


5. Responsible in organizing/assisting community oral health events.
   
   
   
   1. Collaborate with community health staff.
   
   
   2. Conduct and record oral health findings.
   
   
   3. Assure completion of forms and signatures for assessments.
   
   
   4. Organize and maintain follow up procedures.
   
   


6. Responsible for adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing that regular attendance is considered an essential function of all FHCN positions.  Absenteeism is not being at work or failing to attend a paid workshop, training, or event unless the absence is protected by law. 


7. Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.


8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Description of Primary Attributes

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

Effective June 1, 2026, all individuals hired into the role must:

1. Possesses specific advanced knowledge and skills, including written and verbal communication skills, computational, computer, and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge, frequently acquired through one of the following:
   
   
   
   1. Completion of an Associate's or Bachelor’s degree program with a recognized major with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or
   
   
   2. Successful attainment and maintenance of a valid, active professional license required for the role, issued by the appropriate governing or regulatory body.
   
   


2. Possesses specific advanced knowledge skills, including written and verbal communications skills, computational, computer and technical skills, and mathematical knowledge acquired through the completion of an accredited Dental Hygiene program. 


3. Must have proof of completing a Radiation Safety Course. 

Technical Skills:

1. Ability to create highly complex documents in Microsoft Word, including linking multiple files and embedding objects linked to other documents. 


2. Ability to use advanced functions of Microsoft Excel, such as to create and manage databases, including creating standardized reports, or linking multiple worksheets and workbooks.


3. Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.

Licenses & Certifications: Licensed as a Dental Hygienist with the state of California.

Communications Skills:

1. Job duties require the compilation and analysis of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.


2. Duties require preparation and execution of presentations to large groups.

Pay Scale:

Min Hourly Rate: $36.08

Max Hourly Rate: $49.79
