Our calling at PPEC of Palm Beach is supporting families in our community and the precious children entrusted to our expert care. PPEC of Palm Beach is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care center which was founded to serve medically fragile children in Palm Beach County. We are currently seeking a part-time Registered Nurse (RN), Saturday Shift, childcare provider who is experienced in working with children in a pediatric facility to provide exceptional support to the children entrusted to our care. Our RNs are responsible for the daily caregiving responsibilities, and providing a happy, safe, nurturing environment for children to grow.

Under the Director of Nursing’s guidance, the RN promotes and restores patients’ health by completing the nursing process: collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members, providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families, and supervising assigned team members.  

This is a part-time position dedicated to working our Saturday shift from 7am to 3pm and is eligible for a shift differential in pay.

Requirements

Objectives + Responsibilities: 

  • Our RNs engage with the children in our care by:
  • Providing joyful stimulation through singing, activities, and play
  • Providing skilled nursing care to the children in a developmentally appropriate setting
  • Following physician orders for plan of care
  • Documentation of care provided as required by federal and state guidelines
  • Administration of prescribed medications, treatments, and therapies
  • Updates to physician and Medical Director of any necessary changes to a child’s care plan, as well as their response to treatment
  • Assisting in carrying out rehabilitation programming and activities for PPEC patients such as development of social skills and development of daily living skills
  • Providing personal care services to patients including oral hygiene, bathing, and hair care as needed, nail care, diapering, and dressing
  • Providing bed care to patients, repositioning, ambulating, and assisting with elimination needs
  • Observing and monitoring movement and activities of patients in the PPEC
  • Assisting/reviewing MAR monthly and as needed to ensure accuracy 

Experience with the following conditions is REQUIRED:

  • Tube feeding
  • Trach care
  • Wound care
  • Neurological disorders (seizures are common in our patients)
  • Oxygen dependence
  • IV therapy

Experience with the following conditions is highly desired:

  • Premature birth, post-discharge care
  • Chronic lung disease care
  • Feeding- suck/swallow
  • Failure to thrive- poor weight gain
  • Immune deficiencies
  • Renal failure
  • Spina Bifida
  • Pre/post organ transplant care
  • Genetic disorders
  • Rare disorders
  • Postsurgical long/short-term care
  • Colostomy/ileostomy care

Qualifications + Skills for Success:

  • 2+ years of experience in a pediatric care setting, preferably with patients that are medically complex 
  • Valid RN as issued by the Florida Board of Nursing
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required
  • Must be able to pass a Level II background check
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry at least 50 lbs. safely
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Prompt documentation and reporting skills 
  • Knowledge of registered nursing techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of medications and treatments used in patient care
  • Ability to work on Saturdays from 7am to 3pm
