Job Description - Academic Coach for Kids and Teens

Position Overview:

Focus Clinic is seeking a compassionate, organized, and energetic Executive Function Coach to work directly with children and teens navigating ADHD, learning differences, and academic challenges. This role is ideal for someone who loves mentoring youth, understands the power of structure and accountability, and wants to teach practical life and learning skills in a way that truly sticks.

As an Executive Function Coach, you will provide weekly one-on-one check-ins, lead small-group classes on topics like organization, note-taking, and study techniques, and collaborate with families and schools to help students stay on track—academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. If you’re passionate about helping kids build real-world skills and grow in confidence, we’d love to have you join our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly coaching sessions with individual students (in-person or virtually) to help them plan, organize, and reflect on their goals and responsibilities.

  • Lead group classes on executive functioning topics, such as:

    • Time management and prioritization

    • Task initiation and follow-through

    • Note-taking strategies and study skills

    • Classroom organization and materials management

  • Develop and maintain individualized coaching plans that align with each student’s learning style, personality, and goals.

  • Communicate regularly with parents, teachers, and clinic providers to ensure alignment and accountability.

  • Use digital tools (e.g., Google Calendar, task apps) to teach structure and planning.

  • Track progress, maintain coaching notes, and provide updates to families.

  • Help students internalize habits that lead to academic and personal success—especially for those with ADHD, executive functioning delays, or learning disabilities.

  • Create a positive, affirming space where kids feel understood, capable, and empowered.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Prior experience working with children or adolescents, ideally in an academic or behavioral support role

  • Knowledge of ADHD, executive functioning challenges, and learning differences

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to teach planning, scheduling, and time management

  • Clear, encouraging communication style with kids, parents, and educators

  • Comfort with technology (e.g., online calendars, task management tools)

  • Experience teaching or tutoring is a plus

  • Passion for working in a mission-driven, faith-based clinic that values whole-child development

Work Structure & Compensation:

  • Remote or hybrid position (Michigan-based preferred but flexible for the right candidate)

  • Flexible hours: full-time or part-time roles available

  • Compensation: $25–$40/hour depending on experience and education level
(Not an insurance-billable role; this is a private-pay service unless paired with therapy)

Why Join Focus Clinic?

  • Be part of an innovative, collaborative, and mission-driven team that transforms kids’ lives.

  • Deliver high-impact support that empowers children to succeed in and out of the classroom.

  • Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of ADHD specialists, psychologists, and educators.

  • Enjoy autonomy, creativity, and the chance to shape a growing coaching program.

  • Receive support, mentorship, and ongoing professional development opportunities.
