Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant

TriCountry Special Education Association provides physical therapy, occupational therapy service, speech therapy, social work and psychology services to students in 16 school districts in Logan, McClean and DeWitt counties.

Role Description

This is a part-time (1 to 2 days) role for a Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist located in central Illinois (specifically Logan County and surrounding areas). Some work from home is acceptable. Daily tasks will include:

Physical Therapist Assistant:

• implementing physical therapy treatment plans, monitoring student progress, maintaining student records, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.


• Provide direct therapy services to students under PT supervision


• Collect data and observations on student performance during sessions


• Documentation of daily therapy notes


• Communicate observations and concerns to the supervising PT


• Support student participation in school activities (e.g., recess, classroom tasks, transitions)


• Follow safety protocols for positioning, mobility, and equipment use


• Maintain therapy equipment and materials


• Assist in training school staff on student-specific strategies (as directed by PT)


• Travel between school sites


• Participate in team meetings if requested by the PT or team


• Stay informed on students' goals and report back progress to PT for documentation

Physical Therapist:

• Supervision of physical therapy assistant(s)


• Conduct evaluations and re-evaluations for students with suspected or known motor needs


• Interpret assessment results and determine eligibility for PT services


• Develop and write IEP goals and objectives related to physical therapy


• Participate in IEP meetings and team consultations


• Create treatment plans and determine frequency/duration of services


• Provide direct physical therapy services to students


• Provide consultative services to staff to support student access and mobility


• Train staff (teachers, aides, transportation) on safe positioning, transfers, and mobility support


• Document services and maintain accurate therapy notes


• Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals


• Adjust treatment strategies based on student response or team feedback


• Ensure all interventions follow IDEA and state education guidelines


• Communicate regularly with families and IEP teams


• Supervise and delegate tasks to the PTA appropriately


• Travel between school sites

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills


• Ability to work independently and in a team environment


• Licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapist in Illinois as required by state law


• School based experience is a plus


• Applicant must have an active drivers license and reliable means of transportation
