Job Description - School-Based Mental Health Clinician | Eating Disorders

Job Title: School-Based Mental Health Clinician - Eating Disorders
Employment Type: W-2 Part-Time
Location: Remote (U.S.)


Scheduling & Availability (ET): Shifts are scheduled within 7:00 AM–8:00 PM, 7 days/week. You will not work all hours—your weekly schedule will be built within this window based on client needs and your availability, with most sessions typically after school.



  • School year: must be able to accommodate sessions in 7:00–9:30 AM and 4:00–8:00 PM windows

  • Summer: sessions may be scheduled 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (flexible)

  • Clinicians: weekly Thursday team meeting 9:00 AM or 12:00 PM (based on your availability) + Week 1 onboarding at 9:00 AM

  • Occasional holidays as needed

  • Clinicians are required to maintain a minimum of 15 client hours per week


Compensation: 



  • $40–$60/hr for scheduled client sessions (rate based on license level & credentials)

  • $25/hr for training and administrative (non-clinical) time

Role Overview:


VPM is seeking a School-Based Mental Health Clinician - Eating Disorders to provide short-term, school-based tele-therapy to K–12 students across Virginia through a state-funded initiative in partnership with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). This specialty-specific role is intended for clinicians with focused training and clinical experience in assessing and treating eating disorders and related concerns in children and adolescents.



This is a specialty-specific posting intended to recruit clinicians with focused experience, advanced training, and/or certifications aligned to this clinical area. Candidates should be prepared to provide details regarding relevant certifications, specialized training, and direct experience with the identified population during the screening process.



Ideal Candidate Profile:


We are seeking a compassionate, highly skilled clinician who is:



  • Passionate about improving youth mental health outcomes

  • Experienced in supporting children and adolescents with eating disorders and related emotional or behavioral concerns

  • Comfortable working in a virtual care environment

  • Committed to collaboration, clinical excellence, and measurable outcomes

  • Thoughtful, developmentally attuned, and able to work effectively with students, caregivers, and care teams



Key Responsibilities:
Direct Client Care



  • Deliver individual tele-therapy sessions for K–12 students referred by participating schools

  • Utilize evidence-based interventions appropriate for school-aged youth, including treatment approaches informed by eating disorder care best practices

  • Deliver services in a culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate manner

  • Monitor clinical presentation, emotional functioning, and treatment progress while identifying concerns that may require additional clinical coordination or referral

  • Provide specialized support for students experiencing eating disorders, disordered eating patterns, body image concerns, and related emotional or behavioral challenges


Collaboration & Communication



  • Coordinate with school counselors, family resource managers, caregivers, and administrative teams to support continuity of care (including medical and nutritional supports when applicable)

  • Participate in clinical consultation, supervision, and multidisciplinary case discussions as needed

  • Support family engagement when appropriate to reinforce treatment recommendations and continuity outside of sessions

  • Maintain professional, timely communication with school partners and internal VPM teams


Documentation & Compliance



  • Complete all clinical documentation, including intake, progress, and discharge notes, within 48 hours

  • Ensure compliance with licensure requirements, HIPAA, FERPA, mandated reporting obligations, and program-specific standards

  • Support outcomes tracking and program reporting through case summaries and required documentation

  • Perform other duties as assigned



Qualifications & Preferred Experience:


Licensure



  • Licensed in Virginia as an LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent clinical license preferred

  • Candidates with strong specialized certification and training in eating disorder treatment will be considered


Experience



  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, or school-aged youth

  • Demonstrated experience treating eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, or related presentations in youth

  • Experience working with co-occurring anxiety, depression, trauma, perfectionism, and family system concerns preferred

  • Experience in school-based therapy, outpatient mental health, adolescent treatment, community mental health, or telehealth strongly preferred


Skills & Competencies



  • Strong clinical judgment related to eating disorder presentations in children and adolescents

  • Strong time management, organization, and documentation skills

  • Commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and family-aware care

  • Ability to provide developmentally appropriate, strengths-based support while recognizing when higher levels of care may need to be considered


Preferred Certifications & Specialized Training



  • CEDS (Certified Eating Disorder Specialist)

  • CEDS-C (Certified Eating Disorder Specialist – Consultant)

  • FBT (Family-Based Treatment for Eating Disorders)

  • CBT-E (Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders)

  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) with application to eating disorders

  • Other specialized training in eating disorder treatment


Professional Communication & Attendance (Essential Function)


Reliable communication and attendance are essential job responsibilities. Team members must:



  • Attend required onboarding, internal meetings, supervision sessions, and trainings (as applicable)

  • Notify the team as soon as possible regarding delays, absences, or scheduling conflicts

  • Maintain timely, professional communication during scheduled work hours

  • Uphold remote-work standards, including a private workspace and reliable internet connection


Remote Work Requirements


To support client confidentiality and team effectiveness, this role requires:



  • A private, quiet workspace suitable for professional work

  • Reliable high-speed internet and ability to use required systems/tools

  • Comfort working independently while staying connected through remote collaboration


Tools & Systems


This role uses the following tools as part of day-to-day work:



  • BambooHR (HRIS + onboarding)

  • EnGuard (secure email)

  • ClickUp (project + task management)

  • SimplePractice (EHR/telehealth + documentation, as applicable)



Compensation & Benefits:
