Job Description - Resident Transporter Part-Time

Description

The Resident Transporter is responsible for transporting residents in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current federal and state standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures and, as directed by supervisors. Works collaboratively to support the Mission and Values of SCBMA.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transport residents and equipment in vehicles, wheelchairs or walking, assist with boarding and exiting and securing wheelchairs and safety belts as required
  • Prepare vehicle(s) for operation by performing pre-trip safety inspection. Monitor the ongoing condition of vehicle(s) during operation and ensure the vehicle(s) left clean and orderly
  • Identify and report malfunctioning equipment immediately
  • Assist residents during admission and discharge, providing physical assistance
  • Schedule and manage resident scheduled appointments. Ensure that scheduled appointments are followed as outlined by the organization policies and procedures.
  • Inform family/responsible person of upcoming appointments
  • Coordinate transport with resident’s insurance and/or any transport service
  • Transport residents to appointments, assisting into and out of vehicles
  • Communicate information between physicians, residents and health care staff, as appropriate
  • Responsible for orders from physician, supplies and prescriptions
  • Report all accidents/incidents immediately
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations from DHEC, Fire and Safety, OSHA, Labor Laws, etc. and adhere to HIPAA confidentiality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • High School Diploma (or GED) preferred
  • Minimum age requirement is 25 years old.
  • 1+ years’ experience in health care, long term care or working with the frail or elderly preferred
  • Valid SC driver’s license and 3 year clean driving record, ability to drive activities bus
  • Understanding of physical and psychological effects of the aging process and ability to be respectful and tactful with potential clients, residents, family members, visitors, medical professionals and general public. 
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required 
  • Compassion for and desire to work with the elderly
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to safely transport and transfer residents
  • Current first aid and CPR certification
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Time oriented, dependable
  • Committed to 100% customer satisfaction

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Full range of body motion with intermittent activities in walking, sitting, lifting, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting and standing.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing in the normal range
  • Exposure to biological agents such as viruses and other microbes
  • Occasional work during off hours including weekends, nights or holidays
