The Preadmission Testing (PAT) department is vital in assuring that patients have been optimized prior to an elective procedure. The PAT clinic reports to the preoperative manager, and the surgical services director. They work closely with anesthesia as well. As an RN on the team, you will provide preoperative assessment and care using nursing process to pre-surgical patients. You will place calls to patients the day before procedures to review NPO status holding on medications they need to stop, confirm procedure time and confirm that necessary clearances are obtained via contact with doctor’s offices, etc. We are looking for a caregiver who is self-motivated, works well independently, and pays attention to detail. This opportunity will not only allow you to advance your nursing skills even further, but can lead to other opportunities within the department such as coordinator roles.

A caregiver in this position works 8-hour shifts, 24 hours per week. No weekends or holidays will be .
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide preoperative assessment and care using nursing process to pre-surgical patients.
Review physician orders to ensure that all necessary lab work/tests are included to meet surgical and anesthesia criteria.
Assess preoperative labs, EKGs, X-rays, H&P's and alert physicians of unacceptable values.
Provide preoperative instructions and education and ensure that all necessary appointments have been made.
Review patient charts preoperatively to assess pre-existing conditions and medications prior to surgery and communicate any discrepancies to physician or anesthesia for further evaluation.
Perform phlebotomy and twelve lead EKG's when required.
Demonstrate management skills in coordination and provision of healthcare.
Maintain effective relationships with a variety of patient care providers, including community physician practices.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an approved school of Nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
Current demonstrated clinical proficiency
Current licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
Four years of operating room, recovery room or ambulatory surgery nursing experience
One year of pre-admission testing experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
Requires working in stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
