We are seeking a Sales Associate with great retail and service skills. Working at your locally owned Wild Birds Unlimited store is an opportunity to support and educate our friendly customers about birds and nature.
Our Sales Associates work with other staff, including the owner, to bring to life the store’s mission – “We Bring People and Nature Together®…And We Do It With Excellence!” To that end, we provide training with regard to backyard bird feeding, bird watching and product knowledge.
Qualifications:
Applicants must:
• Have a love of nature (particularly birds)
• Have excellent customer service skills
• Be comfortable working with computers (basic functions)
• Be able to lift and carry bags of bird seed weighing 20 pounds (frequently) up to 50 pounds (occasionally)
• Be punctual, professional, and courteous at all times
• Have the ability to creatively problem solve, multi-task, and remain calm while helping multiple customers
• Have a solid understanding of social media and a desire work with the owner to manage our social media and other marketing
Additionally:
• Some retail experience is desirable, but not mandatory
• Knowledge of some local birds is helpful, but we will also teach you all you need to know.
Responsibilities:
• Greeting customers and assisting them with selecting the best products for their needs
• Educating customers about the birds and wildlife in their yards
• Processing sales transactions and returns
• Performing store opening and closing procedures
• Receiving inventory shipments, restocking shelves, and bagging seed
• Keeping the store clean and organized
• Attending employee meetings as required
• May be required to occasionally drive company vehicle to deliver merchandise within the greater San Diego area
• Opportunity to perform community outreach by conducting walks, talks, presentations and running a booth at local events
