Position: School Programs Assistant
Reports to: Manager of School and Teacher Programs
Classification: Non-Exempt, Part Time
Schedule: 7 hours per day, Tuesday – Friday
Pay Rate: $25/hour

Scope of the Position:
The School Programs Assistant works closely with the Manager of School and Teacher Programs, Education Coordinator for Family and School Programs and Gallery Educators to provide administrative and creative support for K-12 school programs. The position schedules school tours and teaches engaging educational programs for K-12 school audiences in the museum galleries and offsite for select school partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inputs and maintains K-12 school tour calendar, scheduling spreadsheet, and request forms.
- Responds to all school tour requests (self-guided, docent guided, DMAzing tour, higher education) made in Microsoft forms.
- Corresponds with teachers by email and/or phone as needed when requested dates are not available or need to be rescheduled.
- Creates and tracks tour invoices in PayPal.
- Manages confirmation emails and invoices.
- Communicates with the Education Coordinator for Family and School Programs on docent scheduling needs and special requests.
- Maintains tour and school partnership program statistics and records onsite school program evaluations.
- Teaches monthly partnership programs with Dallas ISD middle schools, onsite at the Museum and offsite at partnership schools.
- Assists in the development and writing of teaching and educational materials for K-12 school tours.
- Attends initial week-long training session, bi-weekly educator meetings, and weekly school tours meetings as well as additional educational events provided by the Museum.
- Assists school programming for students with disabilities, including tours at the Museum and Special Education Art Workshop programs as needed.
- Supports Family, Youth and School events and programming including Family Festival, Spring Break, Wee Wednesday, and Travis Takeover as needed.
- Gives tours for K-12, family, college, and adult groups as needed.
Requirements
Education, Experience, and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2+ years’ experience working in a museum education setting, including experience working with community outreach, partnership programs, or classroom teachers.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to stay organized, handle complex administrative processes, and manage multiple priorities with interruptions.
- Knowledge of learning styles, educational philosophy, teaching strategies, and multidisciplinary approaches in developing educational programming.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and independently, take initiative, and problem solve.
- Ability to provide front-line customer service skills to a variety of stakeholders in fluid or challenging situations.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrates positive attitude, empathy, a high level of emotional intelligence, and conducts self in a professional manner.
- Experience with Microsoft Suite required.
- A valid driver’s license is required. Must be comfortable driving a minivan on highways in traffic.
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
