Security Officer

The Pauma Police Department is looking for an individual for a part-time position 36 hours per week, who is flexible, result-orientated, possesses a great attitude, demonstrates creativity and innovation, work efficiently, show a record of success, and have a passion for public service. Checkpoint Security Officers are trained and experienced professionals who can assume the full range of security duties after a brief orientation/ training program. Checkpoint Security Officers are key participants in a partnership of the community due to the high visibility upon entering the Pauma Reservation.

Experience and Education:

• Security Officer/ Dispatch experience preferred.
• Must have California Guard Card
• Knowledge of community-based policing principles and practices.
• Skills in managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially.
• Must have computer skills (Microsoft Word)
• Must be able to work holidays, split shifts, nights, and weekends
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
• Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor
• A complete and thorough background and drug screening will be conducted. 

Knowledge Of:

Basic functions, procedures, and policies of public safety operations. Laws and regulations governing the release of information from law enforcement agency records. Modern office methods, equipment, and procedures including automated equipment and software related to dispatch and office support functions. Proper telephone techniques and procedures. Geography of the local community. Operation of and know the regulations governing the use of radio and teletype equipment.

Typical Duties:

Checking in all vehicles/visitors entering the reservation, dispatch duties, answering calls for service, reporting any criminal activity, assisting law enforcement agencies during calls for service.

Minimal Requirements:

· Must possess a California Guard Card. 

· Must have a current valid California Driver’s License and be insurable under the Tribe’s auto policy.

· Must not have been convicted of a felony, not have a misdemeanor conviction of crimes involving public trust, domestic violence, battery, child abuse, or crimes under the color of authority. 

· High School Diploma /GED required.
