SECURITY OFFICER (PART TIME)

Wayne Memorial Hospital will provide security officers. The security officer polices the hospital buildings and grounds to help prevent disorderly behavior, violence or other life threatening situations. Officers' presence discourages theft, illegal entry, vandalism and criminal trespass. Since all officers are full-time police officers, they are capable of enforcement of all Georgia misdemeanor or felony laws. All this helps give Wayne Memorial Hospital patients, visitors and employees a safer environment.

• Monitors hospital internal emergency screens and makes rounds established in shift procedures (see addendum).
• Log all important events of shift.
• Respond to and assist with nonemergency calls for service.
• Leave Wayne Memorial Hospital on errands at request of hospital employee, patient or visitor with any problem that may arise.
• Respond to and reset alarms.
• Provide safety for employees, patients and visitors in hospital and on hospital grounds Help transport patients to other departments or their rooms.
• Change VHS tapes in VCR in ER at the correct times.
• Inform Maintenance of immediate maintenance concerns. Reset air handlers as needed.
• Respond to fire alarms; drill and actual fire emergency. Assist with extinguishment and crowd control.
• Be present at helipad for arrival/departure of LifeStar or other helicopter. Control bystanders and open fire extinguisher shed. Secure shed afterwards.

As assigned by Director of Safety.

Must be high school graduate or have acquired GED. Must be P.O.S.T. Certified police officer.

Must have completed at least one year of police work.

• Must be able to do the following on a constant, ongoing basis:
• Hear and understand both face-to-face and telephone conversations.
• See sufficiently to complete forms.
• Converse appropriately with individuals both inside and outside the hospital.
• Give and receive simple and complex instructions.
• Read and understand written language.
• Concentrate on and remember varied job duties.
• Prioritize work of position and work of those supervised.
• Solve problems ranging from the simple to the complex.
• Train new employees as needed.
• Train current employees on new tasks.
• Make presentations hospital-wide as needed.
• Carry as much as 50 pounds regularly and over 75 pounds often.
• Sit at desk for long periods to complete paperwork and converse on the telephone.
• Withstand extreme heat and cold.

Job requires the utmost in mental and physical alertness to assure the safety of patients, visitors and employees. Officer must be on his feet and constantly moving about the building and premises throughout the entire shift.

Shift time is spent both inside a well lit, heated and cooled building and on the outside, in whatever the weather may be.
