Job Description - See Us, Support Us Youth Fellow

Description

We currently seek a temporary part-time Youth Fellow to join our OCJAG team! The See Us, Support Us Youth Fellow will work closely with and report to the Director of the New York Initiative for Children of Incarcerated Parents (NYCIP), a special project of the Osborne Center for Justice Across Generations (OCJAG). The See Us, Support Us Fellow will assist with planning and executing the national See Us, Support Us (SUSU) initiative for 2025, which culminates in October to raise awareness and increase support for children who have experienced parental incarceration. This part-time, hybrid position is up to 20 hours a week through November 2025.

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour 

Requirements

 Essential Duties

  • Coordinate the SUSU Youth Team and facilitate regular meetings.
  • Share their wisdom, insight, and expertise to inform SUSU month held in October, 2025.
  • Develop a youth engagement strategy to increase youth participation in SUSU and assist with recruitment.
  • Collaborate with the SUSU youth team and national partners to develop messaging, outreach strategies, and activities.
  • Identify and collaborate with youth and young adults who are interested in contributing content (art, blogs, etc.) for SUSU.
  • Participate in Zoom or Google Meet video meetings with OCJAG staff and SUSU partners through November 2025.
  • Assist with creating content for social media and the SUSU website.
  • Assist with planning events to be held during SUSU month in October of 2025.
  • Speak on panels and events about SUSU.
  • Spread the word about SUSU.
  • Attend assigned trainings.
  • In-person attendance is required at times to collaborate with co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalency required. 
  • Lived experience of the incarceration of a parent as a child or young adult is strongly preferred.
  • Passion for or experience in advocating for change is a plus.
  • Experience working on group projects in school or the workplace required.

Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in using video platforms such as Google Meet and Zoom
  • Experience using Google suites software
  • Experience using  CANVA and Wix website builder is preferred
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Creative writing skills
  • Experience using social media platforms, such as Instagram and Twitter
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and build strong relationships
  • Ability to travel locally

Additional Requirements: 

  • The Fellow must have access to a computer or a device that allows the Fellow to participate in virtual meetings, communicate by email,  and create written work as needed.
