SUMMARY
Plans, schedules, and coordinates the fabrication and delivery of metal products to the company’s branch facilities and customers. Responsible for accurate inventory records and fulfilling the needs of branches and end customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned)
· Determines daily production needs and establishes production schedules to meet branch requirements for all production lines.
· Works with production to alter schedules as needed to maintain optimal customer service.
· Monitors the purchasing of incoming material and amends production schedule as appropriate.
· Manages the coordination of transportation providers to ensure on time and lowest cost delivery performance. (LSC Specific).
· Communicates production lead time changes and schedules to company personnel as appropriate.
· Manages shipping, receiving and staging schedules to maximize crane utilization and production time.
· Determines Steel Center stocking levels to maximize service, production LT, floor space utilization and to minimize left over unassigned product.
· Reports receipt of damaged, defective, and/or otherwise unacceptable material to appropriate personnel.
· Facilitates the full cycle mill claim process of metal materials.
· Enters all production data into Work Order software daily upon job completion.
· Receives and responds appropriately to all phone calls from Branch and Corporate personnel.
· Assists Steel Center Manager in performing cycle counts when requested.
· Manages the receiving of inventory records into ERP software and produces individual coil tags to be placed on coils by crane operator.
· Complies with all Company safety practices and procedures.
· Responsible for Processing Center when Manager is not available.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises steel center production support and transportation staff. The Production Support Supervisor will be required to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with Mincron and Real Steel preferred.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be eligible to complete certification and be licensed to operate forklift and overhead crane and regularly keep up to date with any changes in the requirements.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
· Strong knowledge of production management methods.
· Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills with ability to influence.
· Process oriented, proactive, and customer focused.
· Ability to problem solve to the root cause and implement countermeasures.
· Ability to read, interpret and comprehend simple instructions, and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees of the organization.
· Intermediate math skills, including basic math functions, and the ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations is also necessary.
· Proficient computer skills with a solid understanding of Microsoft office. Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge required. Must be able to import data, sort, filter, and manipulate data including the use of pivot tables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The warehouse space is not climate controlled.
