Come join our Team at Bend Parks and Recreation District! We are looking for a Spanish Inclusion Leader

Selected candidate hired in this position will receive an additional $1.50/hr bilingual differential on top of their hourly rate upon completed language assessment. 

About the job:

The Spanish Inclusion Leader provides language inclusion support to facilitate the participation of Spanish speaking participants in district programs. Assists overall outreach efforts including translations, event support and partner organization collaborations.

A day in the life:

  • Provides language inclusion support for Spanish speakers participating in district programs, facilitating communication between participants, district staff, and families.
  • Provide information and assist with registration for district programs and activities including Spanish speakers.
  • Assists in community outreach efforts through various tabling opportunities and collaborations with local organizations.
  • Organizes materials, equipment and supplies for outreach events including preparation, set-up, errands, clean-up, and event staffing.
  • Leads recreation activities ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
  • Oversees the safety, comfort and progress of participants.
  • Adapts activities as needed to meet the abilities and needs of individuals.
  • Communicates effectively with the public including providing accurate information and responding to patron and parent questions and concerns.
  • Respond to accidents and incidents according to procedure.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Schedule:

  •    Varies, but an average of 5-10 per week

Strong Knowledge of:

  • Spanish language, both written and oral; 
  • Community engagement with emphasis on diversity and equity issues and practices;

Skill and Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish; 
  • Cultivate understanding and trust between individuals and the district; 
  • Interact with diverse populations and individuals;
  • Facilitate participation in activities; 
  • Plan, lead and instruct assigned recreation activities;
  • Understand the needs of participants and adapt accordingly;
  • Motivate participants through positive encouragement;
  • Perform independently within a structured environment;
  • Communicate effectively, tactfully, and pleasantly with the public and others; and
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative working relationships with all contacts.

What we’re looking for:

Education, Experience and Training:

  1. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age; AND
  2. Currently attending high school or High school diploma or equivalent; AND
  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish; AND
  4. Some previous work, training/certification or volunteer experience related to position; OR
  5. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.

License and Certifications:

Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire a CPR/First Aide certification.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general supervision of a supervisor. Receives ongoing and specific direction from lead and supervisory staff. Carries out work with some independence but work and decisions are typically reviewed prior to final execution.

Supervision Exercised:

Supervision is not a responsibility of this position; however, position may provide direction over Recreation 1’s and volunteers.

Working Conditions: 

The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.

  • Depending on job assignment, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures.
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to walk and stand for sustained periods of time with frequent climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling, and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies and set-up and break-down equipment and facilities.
  • Exposure to large crowds, uncooperative or difficult individuals, exposure to illness, and periods of continuous demand.

Selection Process:

Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. An offer of employment is contingent on the verification of credentials and other information required by Bend Park & Recreation District policies, including a background check and a driving history review when driving is required for position.
