Job Title: Special Needs Ministry Coordinator

Purpose Statement:

The Special Needs Ministry Coordinator seeks to ignite a passion to follow Jesus in the children, young adults, and adults with special needs at College Park Church (CPC). By combining a unique combination of passion and expertise in understanding how to best care for and disciple this historically underserved population. This position would seek to build upon and grow the current special needs ministries at CPC, as well as discern how to expand the breadth and depth of Special Needs Ministries at CPC. The Special Needs Ministry Coordinator position resides on the Congregational Care & Compassion team and reports to the Pastor of Congregational Care & Compassion and collaborates heavily with the Children’s Ministry team.

Responsibilities:

• Speak into and assist with defining vision, direction, and strategies for Special Needs Ministries


• Work to develop and implement appropriate opportunities that align with ministry priorities, vision, and direction. Current opportunities include:

• Evaluate current special needs offerings and implement best practices for care and discipleship within the context of Special Needs


• Collaborate in recruiting, cultivating, and empowering a passionate volunteer leader base


• Empower and develop key leaders within each special needs area


• Track and maintain volunteer records, including managing required background checks


• Collaborate cross functionally with a strong, direct link to Children’s Ministry and alignment within the vision, strategy, and direction for discipleship of Children at CPC


• Elevate an understanding and embracement of special needs individuals at CPC


• Collaborate with Student Ministries and Adult Discipleship to foster inclusion of special needs friends into the main body life of College Park Church as feasible and appropriate


• Foster genuine community and support among and for families with special needs at CPC


• Creatively support, partner with, and resource the parents and families of special needs individuals with a unique understanding of how special needs impacts the whole family.


• Research and appropriately provision spaces and resources used by each special needs ministry area


• Submit room reservations for regular classes, special events, and other special needs related meetings


• Assist in developing and managing the budget for Special Needs Ministries


• Assist the Congregational Care & Compassion Team with special projects and events as able

Candidate Profile:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably with a Special Needs emphasis


• At least 2-3 years of experience in a Special Needs context strongly preferred


• Creative, compassionate, and relational individual who can advocate on behalf of the most vulnerable in our midst


• Self-motivated individual driven by a passion for Special Needs individuals


• A servant’s heart with attention to detail while also comfortable helping to recruit, train, and lead volunteers and speaking into ministry priorities and strategy


• Effective at directing volunteers with wisdom, care, positivity, and efficiency


• Capable of resolving conflict and handling difficult circumstances with wisdom, maturity, discernment, and confidentiality


• Well-developed interpersonal skills and able to articulate ideas clearly


• Communicates in a Christ-like and professional manner in public and private


• Collaborator with other staff members and ministries to promote the church’s overall mission and health

• Passionate about the mission, values, and strategy of College Park Church, the essential role of discipleship of believers with special needs, and witness of the local church


• Spirit-filled individual who possesses an authentic love for Jesus Christ and others and increasing evidence of spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)


• Demonstrates a stable, mature Christian walk, with a commitment to prayer and the authority of God’s life-giving word


• Desires to grow and develop personally as a follower of Christ and professionally in areas of ministry knowledge and skill development


• Is a member of College Park Church in good standing or willing to become a member.

Work Schedule:

• This is a part-time, 20 hours/week, Sunday-Thursday position


• Must be willing to work some evenings, weekends, holidays, etc. to accommodate ministry needs or opportunities


• Sunday morning engagement and attendance at staff meetings and other staff functions required
