Job Description - Speech Language Pathologist - PRN



Part-time


Description

  

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing services to individuals with significant physical and intellectual disabilities within the home and Adult Training Facility settings at TVFI. The SLP may establish and carry-out therapeutic programming to maximize the client’s level of functioning and quality of life through direct client treatment, staff and family education, and interdisciplinary involvement. The SLP will also be responsible for the completion of annual, quarterly, and acute assessment to maintain regulatory compliance. 

Contributions: 

  

  • Demonstrates skill proficiency in all areas related to speech and language, including but not limited to: communication and social interactions, including AAC device use, cognitive skills, audiology, oral-motor functioning, feeding and swallowing and mealtime adaptive equipment. 
  • Uses comprehensive evaluations to establish the SLP plan of care provides 1:1 client treatment, creates individualized home programs and monitors client progress post-discharge.
  • Competently supports care in a manner consistent with National and State regulations, along with SLP Practice Acts.
  • Provides and supports client care delivery in accordance with facility/departmental/regulatory/payor policies and procedures for clinical setting and population served. 
  • Provides training, in-servicing, and orientation to designated staff regarding SLP approaches, techniques, methodology and other pertinent information as identified by the interdisciplinary team.
  • Attending off-site, SLP-specific client evaluations and treatments, as needed.
  • Completes all necessary documentation such as quarterly reviews and procedures, annual assessments and observations in the Adult Training Facility and residences. 
  • Regular, consistent participation in the Interdisciplinary Team Process, including attendance at intermittent, annual and quarterly client meetings as needed.
  • Performs routine clerical support tasks, which may include daily logs, ordering supplies, organizing department materials and collection of  department statistics. 
  • Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions.
  • Manages and creates goals for implementation via Communication Therapy Aide; maintains continuous oversight to programs implemented by CTA
  • Conducts assessment/oversight for proper IDDSI implementation/usage, mealtime procedures, dysphagia waivers, and all other speech related initiatives
  • Assessment/monitoring of high risk individuals and implementation of specialized support needs
  • Management of speech related campus wide protocols and facilitation of collaboration with  respective departments for implementation/supervision
  • Participation in  Verland committees respective to their role as an SLP
  • Availability for emergent SLP needs (meal/snack concerns, consistency determinations,      decline in swallow function, etc)
  • Available for consultation at all Verland sites/facilities as needed

Requirements

  

  • Verbal and written communication skills are necessary to present ideas, programs and progress reports concerning individuals to staff,  parents and other departments. 
  • Ability to interact well with all departments and across disciplines.
  • Must demonstrate good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledgeable in and exercise appropriate body mechanics during treatment.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current national board certification and SLP  licensure with the state of Pennsylvania.
  • 3-5 years of SLP experience with this client population is preferred.
  • Familiarity and comfort level working with individuals who have severe to profound intellectual and physical disabilities.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems, email communication, word processing and spreadsheet software. 
  • On-the-job training is provided by the Habilitation Services Manager on various interdepartmental methods and procedures.
  • Requires CPR and Basic Life Support certification through AHA within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have Act 33 and Act 34 clearances. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
