Sports Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Sports Coordinator at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA assists in overseeing the development and operations of the sports programs, ensuring the program meets its intended goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Oversees safety and maintenance of sports equipment, prepares facilities for practices and games, and transports program equipment for practices and games.
• Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate; ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
• Assists with supervision of branch facilities, sites, gyms, fields, and special events.
• Maintains discipline among all participants to ensure the comfort and safety of others.
• Recruits, hires, onboards/trains diverse staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Maintains staff schedules and evaluates staff performance.
• Assists in creating teams, as well as develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials and coaches; assists in developing and distributing rules, guidelines, and handbooks; assists in purchasing and distributing team uniforms and awards; coordinates team photographs; assists in organizing season parties and events; organizes and conducts sports clinics as needed.
• Assists in leading parents/coaches meetings for youth sports or participant/captain meetings for adult sports.
• Processes volunteer applications.
• Works as a liaison to officials, monitoring their activities and performance, ensuring safety and quality.
• Substitutes as a sport official as needed.
• Organizes and maintains cleanliness of all sports storage areas and sports sites.
• Performs administrative duties as needed.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions; develops and maintains collaborative relationships with staff, caregivers, participants and community organizations to maximize program impact and drive overall outcomes; maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
• Applies all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age of 18.
• Prior experience in sports programs preferred.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Capacity to work cooperatively in a team environment.
• Superb verbal and written communication.
• Excellent skills in dealing with high stress and crisis management situations appropriately.
• Basic knowledge of computers and ability to become proficient in AMA YMCA software.
• CPR/AED/O2/First Aid certifications and Child Abuses Prevention, Understanding Your Biases, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication Awareness, and Slips, Trips, and Falls trainings required within 30 days of hire.

• The employee frequently is required to walk, stand, sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually high.

Work Schedule:
This is a part-time, on-site position with the following weekly schedule:

• Tuesday – Friday: 2:30 PM – 8:30 PM
• Saturday: 7:00 AM – 11:00 AM
• Sunday and Monday: Off
