Sr. Recreation Worker (Hiking/Snowshoe Instructor)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Recreation Manager and assigned under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, instructs hiking/snowshoeing classes on Draper City’s trail system in Corner Canyon.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

• None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Plans and organizes route and leads hikes and/or classes lasting about four hours.


• Advises participants on proper gear or clothing for the hike or snowshoeing activity.


• Emails participants prior to the class with meeting location.


• Demonstrates specific skills, teaching techniques and procedures for each scheduled class or activity.


• Helps participants adjust gear and snowshoes in order to be comfortable during the hike.


• Communicates any equipment needs or trail issues to the Recreation Manager.


• Complies with all Draper City policies and procedures.


• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Age – Must be 18 years or older.


• Education – High school diploma or G.E.D.


• Experience – Prior experience in hiking or snowshoeing required. Must have experience with the Corner Canyon Trail system and be able to read maps associated with the trail system.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Position requires working outdoors. Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and/or see. (Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.) Occasional exposure to wet and humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.) Frequent exposure to high levels of noise. May operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

•  Work schedule will vary between day and night as well as weekends, depending on the activity


• Salary range: $28.11 - $46.88 DOE
