Job Summary

We are seeking a friendly and service-oriented Store Clerk to join our team! As a Store Clerk, you will assist customers with their shopping needs and ensure an excellent shopping experience. Responsibilities may include working the register, stocking shelves, processing inventory, and maintaining the store’s appearance. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in customer service and knowledge of cash register operation.

Responsibilities

Greet each customer with a smile and provide assistance while they are shopping

Follow all safety and loss prevention procedures.

Work at a register to ring up and carry out customer sales.

Collect payments by cash and credit card

Issue receipts and refunds to customers

Take added responsibility for stocking, inventory, and store maintenance.

Drive sales by participating in targeted product promotions and initiatives as set forth by the company.

Develop and maintain solid product knowledge in order to best help customers with their selections.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

Ability to read, count, write, and communicate clearly and effectively

Understanding of sales techniques and best practices in customer service

Willingness to work well in a team environment

Ability to quickly and accurately work a register

Willingness to work a flexible schedule

Wilbur’s General Store has been a fixture in the beautiful seaside community of Little Compton for well over 100 years. Established in 1893 by C.R. Wilbur, the store has been not only the shopping hub of this unique village, but also an essential gathering place for catching up with old friends and meeting new ones!

This friendly landmark looks deceptively small from the outside...inside you will discover eight rooms filled with just about anything and everything one could need or want in a true general store. From the full grocery aisles and meat counter, to four rooms of fine gifts, books, toys, clothing, cards, wrapping paper and tableware to a amazingly well-stocked hardware department, Wilbur’s goal is to let year-round, and seasonal residents alike relax into the casual pace of this special corner of Rhode Island.
