• Friday: 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Position Overview

The Student Mentor & Music Teacher at Accelerated Learning Center (ALC) plays a dual role in supporting student success—serving as both a relational mentor and a music instructor. This position is designed to build meaningful relationships with students while providing high-quality music instruction that supports creativity, emotional expression, and personal growth.

The ideal candidate is passionate about working with at-risk and non-traditional learners, believes in the transformative power of education and the arts, and is committed to helping students develop confidence, discipline, and purpose through both mentorship and music education.

Key Responsibilities

Student Mentorship

• Build authentic, trust-based relationships with students
• Provide consistent encouragement, accountability, and guidance
• Support students in developing social-emotional skills, resilience, and self-confidence
• Serve as a positive role model and trusted adult on campus
• Collaborate with school staff to support student engagement and success
• Help create a safe, supportive, and relational school culture

Music Instruction

• Plan and deliver engaging music instruction aligned with student needs and interests
• Teach foundational music concepts (rhythm, melody, harmony, theory, performance, etc.)
• Facilitate individual and group music activities
• Integrate music as a tool for expression, healing, and personal development
• Encourage creativity, discipline, and teamwork through music education
• Support performances, projects, or showcases as appropriate

Qualifications

Required:

• Possess or obtain an IVP Fingerprint clearance card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety 
• Experience working with youth or young adults in educational, mentoring, or community settings
• Strong relational and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to connect with diverse learners
• Musical competency (vocal and/or instrumental)
• Ability to manage small and large group settings

Preferred:

• Teaching or instructional experience in music
• Experience working with at-risk, alternative education, or non-traditional students
• Background in trauma-informed care, youth development, or mentoring programs
• Classroom management experience
