Since 1985, Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless (AHCH) has dedicated its mission exclusively to providing services to people experiencing homelessness. AHCH provides a distinctive continuum of integrated care through outreach and site-based services to address the health-related causes and consequences of homelessness. We are looking for a Part-time (20 hours per week) Studio Assistant to work in our ArtStreet program. The Studio Assistant assists in day-to-day maintenance and operation of the AHCH open art studio and community based ArtStreet related projects, including installation of client art exhibitions and sales of participant art at off-campus locations. This position also maintains cleanliness of the art studio, conducts outreach about AHCH programs and services to the community, serves as a welcoming presence to all people on the AHCH campus and outreach, and conducts appropriate training on the use of ArtStreet supplies/equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage with clients and other participants in ArtStreet program through art and art making
Build rapport with clients and proactively communicate behavioral expectations for a safe, healthy studio and campus environment
Clean studio and conduct appropriate trainings on use of ArtStreet supplies/equipment
Maintain a welcoming presence to all persons on the AHCH campus and on outreach
Conduct outreach about AHCH programs/services to community and potential clients
Sell participant art at markets and shows
Receive and document donations from community members
Make client referrals to other AHCH resources
Maintain database and reporting requirements in conjunction with ArtStreet Coordinator
Perform other duties as assigned
Must comply with all AHCH policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to work with diverse groups of people including those with severe mental illness and/or substance use disorder
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have good organizational skills
Comfort with working in variable work locations
Experience with and familiarity of supplies used in art making
Experience with instructing others on techniques of art making
Understanding of the therapeutic value of art making
Experience working in Human Service or Customer Service fields
High school diploma or GED
Valid NM driver’s license and clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of experience working in community-based art studio
Experience working with people with serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorder
Associates degree in Art
Bilingual English/Spanish
Experience with data entry
