Francis Parker School (Parker) is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1,330 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world.” Parker has two campuses: one in Mission Hills (Lower School, Junior Kindergarten - Grade 5), and a second in Linda Vista (Middle and Upper School, Grades 6 - 12). 

Job Description:

The primary role of the Substitute Teacher is to assume responsibility for a classroom and perform all the tasks of the absent teacher. The exact teaching assignment is based on both the needs of the department and the particular experience and skill set of the substitute teacher. As such, flexibility is a must! 

Essential duties will include:  

• Implement lesson plan of absent teacher
• Take attendance in accordance with School policy
• Maintain classroom control and discipline
• Ensure students adhere to school rules
• Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment
• Confer with students and colleagues as required
• Perform other duties as assigned

In addition to the duties listed above, Parker expects the following of each employee: adheres to Parker policies and procedures; works in a safe manner; maintains a positive and respectful attitude; and communicates regularly with supervisor about any issues or concerns.

Requirements

Qualifications: 

• A degree and preferably a teaching certificate in a specific content area
• Prior classroom experience is preferred
• The ability to follow lesson plans accurately
• Strong interpersonal and cultural competency skills 
• Commitment to being a positive and contributing member of the professional community
• A love of children and a desire to work with all types of learners
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• A proficiency in the use of technology
• A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment

Salary and Benefits:

This position pays $200 for full-day and $100 for half-day. This position is not eligible for benefits.
