Summer Camp Counselor

Join our team this summer at Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure! We’re looking for enthusiastic and energetic Summer Camp Counselors to lead fun-filled activities for children ages 4–13. Our camp offers a variety of recreational experiences including kayaking, hiking, swimming, arts & crafts, basketball, team sports, off-site field trips, and more. Counselors will create a safe, engaging, and memorable environment where kids can explore the outdoors and make lasting memories. This is a weekday position with shifts from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM and 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with AfterCare coverage from 10:30 AM – 6:00 PM.

Requirements

 Essential Job Functions:

• Monitors the safety and supervision of children's program participants. 
• Creates a sense of community between program participants and counseling staff. 
• Organizes and leads activities for children such as family events/games, water activities, sports activities, etc. both on and off Rumbling Bald property. 
• Participates in all program activities with children. 
• Reports behavioral issues in writing to the Wellness Director. Wellness Supervisor and parents immediately.
• Applies comprehensive knowledge of all Wellness Center operations, products, services, and programs daily. 
• Ensures cleaning and maintaining the proper use of Rumbling Bald facilities and equipment. 

Education & Experience:

• Must be able to operate a 12- to 15-passenger van as part of job responsibilities.
• Minimum of one year of experience working with children's programs.
• Must be at least 18 years old with 6 to 12 months of experience in a recreation or summer camp setting.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license with no restrictions that would impede the performance of essential job duties.
• Current certifications in CPR, Lifesaving, and/or First Aid are required.
• Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills, along with keen attention to detail, motivation, and a proactive work ethic.

Physical Requirements:

The following physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

• Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.
• Ability to stand, bend, walk, use hands and arms for handling and reaching, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Capability to meet the physical demands of the role, including swimming, hiking, running, and crouching.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including exposure to sunlight and hot, humid summer climates.
