POSITION TITLE: Summer Food Program Rural Delivery Driver

RESPONSIBLE TO: Youth and Family Programs Manager

HOURS PER WEEK: 25-29 hours 

DATES OF POSITION: June 16, 2025 – August 25, 2025

CLASS: Non-exempt, hourly

COMPENSATION: $18.50 / hour

ABOUT FFLC: FOOD For Lane County’s mission is to reduce hunger by engaging our community to create access to food. Our vision is to end hunger in Lane County. The FOOD for Lane County (FFLC) Summer Food Service Program provides youth with nourishing meals where school meals are not available in the summer. The Rural Delivery Program delivers lunches to children at locations that are not currently served by the Summer Food Service Program.

SUMMARY OF POSITION: This is a seasonal, temporary position. Must be 18 years of age or older. This position co-coordinates and delivers FOOD For Lane County’s Rural Summer Food Program sites across rural communities in Lane County while driving a FFLC sprinter van. This position serves as the driver, distributor and works closely with their Co-Coordinator and other FOOD For Lane County (FFLC) staff. The coordinator works to maintain relationships with participants and manages groups of volunteers. The coordinator places orders, conducts inventory, and maintains accurate records.

PRIMARY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operation of Rural Delivery

  • Coordinate ordering, inventory, storage, and distribution of food
  • Drive FFLC sprinter van to host sites at designated times, set up and distribute food bags. This includes repetitive bending and lifting of up to 50lbs and frequently getting in and out of vehicle
  • Maintain vehicle and food handling equipment in a safe and sanitary condition
  • Promptly report any vehicle maintenance issues to Operations Director

Volunteer Coordination

  • Train and supervise groups of volunteers

Program Tracking and Compliance

  • Complete daily forms
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and Oregon Food Bank regulations regarding food safety, storage, and handling
  • Maintain accurate and updated program files

OTHER TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the flow of meal distribution by delivering last minute items to Site Supervisors as needed
  • Serve as a Site Supervisor when needed
  • Assists with meal preparation as needed
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Maintains a professional appearance, manner, and approach while on duty
  • Upholds FFLC’s values of compassion, inclusion, and collaboration
  • Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to drive a box truck
  • Current Oregon driver’s license with good driving record, experience driving large trucks preferred 
  • Able to obtain Food Handler’s card
  • Ability to perform strenuous and repetitive physical labor; ability to safely lift 50 pounds repetitively
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to all participants and partners
  • Ability to manage stress, be flexible, and respond to unexpected changes

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
  • Physical ability to enter and exit your vehicle up to frequently
  • Ability to safely work in a warehouse setting with lifting, bending, twisting, reaching, walking, carrying, as well as pushing and pulling carts, moving pallets, and transporting food and carts in and out of industrial refrigerators

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This work is performed in a variety of both indoor (office, warehouse, industrial freezer), outdoor, and vehicle settings

* The use of a smart phone will be necessary to meet the requirements of this position. FFLC will provide a company phone or monthly reimbursement towards a personal phone plan.
