TITLE:                          Sweep Assistant


DEPARTMENT:            Development


REPORTS TO:              Senior Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator


SALARY:                          $20-$22 per hour


SCHEDULE:                  Part-time; with flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends


LOCATION:                  Ossining, NY | Hybrid - 3 days TOTAL required in the office


 


POSITION SUMMARY


Riverkeeper seeks a Sweep Assistant to support the coordination of our annual day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries, the Riverkeeper Sweep. The 15th annual Riverkeeper Sweep is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026 and will bring thousands of volunteers together along hundreds of miles of shoreline from New York City to the Adirondacks, where volunteers will clean up local parks and shorelines, remove invasive species, and plant native trees and grasses. The Sweep Assistant will report to the Senior Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


(This is not an exhaustive list of all job duties, responsibilities, and requirements.)



Timeline of work:


February 9-May 2, 2026



  • Create & maintain Soapbox Engage volunteer registration pages for up to 100 Sweep sites

  • Run and distribute registration reports to site leaders

  • Recruit volunteers through community calendar postings and direct outreach to volunteer groups/community organizations

  • Assist the Senior Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator with materials creation, data management, mailings, e-blasts, and email 

  • Respond to inquiries about the program and provide logistical and organizing support to Sweep Leaders

  • Create and post community calendar and social media content (e.g.: e-magazines, Facebook group pages)

  • Organize with Sweep Leaders who are interested in developing stewardship projects outside of Sweep Day as part of our expanded year-round Sweep program


Sweep Day (Saturday, May 2, 2026)



  • Will be available to visit select a morning Sweep project

  • Will call Sweep Leaders & collect data from cleanup projects upon return from selected site 


May 2 - June 19, 2026



  • Collect project results from Sweep Leaders via phone calls and emails

  • Analyze and chart Sweep data

  • Assist with writing the Sweep blog post

  • Transfer Sweep registrant information onto Google Sheets for Salesforce importing 


 


EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong communication skills and precise attention to detail

  • Experience with event, project, and/or volunteer management

  • High proficiency with Google Drive and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Enthusiasm for the Riverkeeper mission and for helping the team reach its goals for Sweep 2026

  • Highly collaborative and able to work with a team of dedicated Development professionals

  • Reliable and flexible with a strong ability to meet deadlines and multitask

  • Have a personal cell phone that can be used for Riverkeeper calls 

  • Licensed and insured driver with access to a vehicle required for Sweep Day


 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS



  • Requires availability for two webinars in the evenings, 2-3 days in the office packing up materials for the Sweep Leaders, and completing calls and emails on the day of Sweep

  • Driver’s license required  

  • This position is part-time at 20 hours per week. Salary is commensurate with experience.
