Dive into a rewarding opportunity with the YMCA as our Swim Lesson Coordinator, where your passion for water safety and youth development comes to life! Under the guidance of the Associate Executive Director, you’ll oversee and elevate our swim lesson program in alignment with the Y Swim Lessons V6 and Safety Around Water curriculum. In this engaging, hands-on role, you’ll blend leadership with impact — dedicating approximately 14 hours weekly to program administration and another 14 hours to actively teaching group and private swim lessons, plus lifeguarding as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage/teach swim lessons in group lessons and private lessons.
Manage and complete the Swim Instructors' payroll.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow instructors and supervisors; to deal courteously and firmly with students and parents; and demonstrate good judgment, tact, and courtesy.
Manage class scheduling, flyers, and data entry for the swim lesson program.
Schedule swim instructors for class assignments
Handle all administrative duties associated with the Swim lesson program.
Carry out the YMCA commitment for the Safety around water program
Manage rosters in Daxko data system by inputting classes, managing classes, and pulling rosters and reports.
Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures; completes related reports as required
Schedule and lead in service training at a minimum of 4 times a year.
Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
Provides the swim lesson instructors the tools they need to succeed, such as progression/attendance sheets, mid-term progression forms, and end-of-session certificates, according to the YMCA V6 toolkit.
Send welcome emails and parent orientations, and communicate with the participants on session dates and makeup lesson dates if needed.
Works with Marketing and assists with updating the website for events and session dates
Manages participants in Daxko and removes participants from the waitlist as needed.
Manage class numbers by moving participants as needed for low-participant classes.
Adds classes as needed to increase participant numbers.
Assist with preparing and tracking swim lesson registrations in relation to the budget.
Track and organize our swim program participant report cards for each session
Implement and maintain an engagement process for growth, communication, and advancement of swim levels.
Must be present and available to speak with parents on the first and last class date for each session, along with greeting and welcoming participants to class.
Make sure all appropriate equipment and instructional materials are available and used appropriately.
Provides timely and accurate feedback to participants or guardians about their progress and skills needed to progress
Maintains required instructional certifications
Assists with finding staff coverage for shifts
Maintain a high level of member service by answering questions and problem-solving
Order supplies needed in accordance with approval
Assist with guarding when needed
Knowledgeable in all stages of progression within teaching swim lessons from age 6 months and up
Requirements
Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
Must have one to three years of experience teaching swimming lessons
Must have certification in CPR
Current YMCA Swim Lesson certification in core area or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
An understanding of facility policies, procedures, and rules.
Must present a professional, mature image, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills
The Y will certify this Swim Coordinator position as a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor v6. (Within 120 days of hire)
